Background
The Mercedes-Benz 300D is part of a range of executive cars known as the W123. The W123 range was produced from 1975 to 1986. W123 models quickly gained a reputation for incredible reliability, with many being used for German taxis and only citing minor repair work at the 500,000 and 1,000,000km mark. Once a W123 reached the end of its serviceable life, they were often shipped to third world countries where they again became highly regarded for their ability to travel rough roads and great distances without requiring maintenance. The W123 was available as a sedan, coupe, wagon, limousine, and long wheelbase vehicle, allowing it to surpass its predecessor, the W114, as the most successful Mercedes-Benz in the company’s history. A total of 2,696,915 units were constructed during the car’s production run.
