Background
The Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 were the first automobiles to be offered by Maybach after the brand was revived by then DaimlerChrysler AG, now Daimler AG. Both models were inspired by the Benz Maybach concept car unveiled at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was built on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class platform and so were the 57 and 62. The 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index placed Maybach in first place over both Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Unfortunately, not everything turned out for Maybach in the following years. The 57 and 62 were both discontinued in 2012 due to continued financial losses for the brand, and one fifth of the sales that Rolls-Royce models were generating.
