“ 911 Killer - The Last 390 ever Produced ”

Few modern cars can do what the Exige Final Edition does: rare, quick, stunning to look at, usable but an absolute beast on the track, all while being street legal.

Background

The Lotus Exige launched in 2000 and was intended to be a sportier coupé version of the Lotus Elise roadster. As such, both cars shared some similarities in the Exige’s early days, such as the naturally aspirated 1.8 litre engine. The first Exige developed 177hp in its “street version”, and an upgraded track version was available with 190hp. The car was impressively quick, achieving a 4.7 second sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. The Exige was built over a span of more than 20 years and in a variety of versions through three different series.

The final series, number three, was launched in 2011 at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and introduced a larger 3.5 litre V6 engine that was taken over from the Evora S. The supercharged power unit was able to develop 345hp and to accommodate the large six-cylinder engine, Lotus had to widen the car by 5cm and lengthen it by 25cm. The third series proved to be a big success, the fanbase loving its uncompromising sportiness that the Lotus make is so reputed for.

In February 2021, Lotus unveiled three final edition models of the Exige that quickly sold out: the Exige Sport 390, Exige Sport 420 and the Exige Cup 430 final edition. The example offered here is the Sport 390 version, featuring a 3.5 litre supercharged V6, which it shared with the wider Exige range, though in the final edition, it was tuned to develop an impressive 397hp with 420Nm of torque. Though considered to be the “entry-level” of the final editions, this version is capable of remarkable acceleration and top speed: 0 to 100km/h is reached in just 3.8 seconds while the odometer tops out at 276km/h… not necessarily what you would call “entry-level”!

Strictly limited, and difficult to find in today’s market, these cars are sought after by collectors, and we are pleased to be offering one of these rare automobiles for sale here.

Overview

The car on offer is a 2022 version of the Sport 390 Final Edition and was delivered new to Luxembourg. It is offered from single ownership and has done approximately 3,180kms from new.

Exterior

There is little to say concerning the condition of the exterior as the Lotus is virtually new. It has of course never been track-raced and does not show any blemishes, scratches, or other damages. The car is presented in its original metallic Vortex Grey paint (code b172) with black forged wheels. Options include red brake calipers and a carbon aero pack (rear wing & rear diffusor). The owner reports that he was looking to buy an uncompromising race car for the road, and he has certainly achieved that with his personalized specification. Immediately after delivery, the seller had the vehicle ceramic coated on the bodywork, wheels, brake calipers, engine bay and windows and an additional layer of black protective film was applied to the rear wings (giving these parts a double layer of protection, having a transparent protective film mounted already from factory). On top of that, a protective film was applied around the headlamps, giving the car the looks of the Cup 430 version. It goes without saying that the tires of the vehicle are virtually new, being the original units from 2021 and having covered only approximately 3,180kms. We invite you to view the pictures in the gallery to get a better impression of the vehicle.

Interior

Just as the exterior, this Exige was customised to the first owner’s individual wishes and specified in an elegant colour combination of solid grey and black with contrasting red. The manual gear lever is beautifully machined and gives the interior this special touch. The seats are upholstered in black leather with a charcoal seating surface made of fabric. The first owner ordered several options which included full carpets and floor mats, an interior colour pack called solid red, an Alcantara steering wheel and a radio and A/C delete option to save weight. We did tell you the owner wanted an uncompromising race car for the road! On top of that, an original Lotus footrest has been mounted for the passenger, who will most certainly need it. This example is the only car ever delivered in this specification and is a true one of one automobile.

Mechanical

No pictures from underneath the vehicle have been taken, but no negative surprises should be expected here. Unlike the rest of the car, the view under the bonnet is rather unspectacular, the V6 and its covers taking up all the space in the engine bay. The engine has been slightly modified with a Vone Racing airfilter box and the engine settings were subsequently adapted by Komo-Tec, the German Lotus specialist based at the Nürburgring. Additionally, the engine (which is shared between the different final edition versions) has been upgraded to the software of the Cup 430 version. The owner reports that the engine runs perfectly and goes exceptionally well. Behind the engine bay you will find a small baggage compartment that fits two small bags for a weekend getaway with a lucky passenger. The Exige is offered with its original owner’s and service manuals and a Lotus car cover.

History

This Lotus Exige was ordered and delivered new to its first and sole owner via the Luxembourg based dealer Arnold Kontz in early 2022. Being a late example, the Lotus certificate that is part of the sale confirmed that this car is not only called the Final Edition, but is indeed the final chassis number allocated, making this particular example even more special. Not only is this the last Sport 390 chassis number by sequence built, but is, as mentioned above, the only example finished in Vortex Grey and Matt Black with Charcoal fabric trim and the red interior colour pack. The owner has covered 3,180kms with the car and it was serviced at 1,450kms in May 2022 for the first and in May 2023 for the second time. Recently, the consigning seller has sparingly used the vehicle and has now decided to sell his beloved Lotus for someone else to enjoy. The car has a valid Luxembourgish MOT and a works guarantee until March 2025.

Summary

Few modern cars can do what the Exige Final Edition does: rare, quick, stunning to look at, usable but an absolute beast on the track, all while being street legal. It comes as no surprise that all these cars were quickly snapped up when they launched in 2021, and opportunities to get your hands on one are rare. If this is the car you have been dreaming of, stop looking, because we doubt you will find a better one. The car on offer has only had a single owner from new and has covered a mere 3,180kms. An opportunity not to be missed.
