Background
The Lotus Exige launched in 2000 and was intended to be a sportier coupé version of the Lotus Elise roadster. As such, both cars shared some similarities in the Exige’s early days, such as the naturally aspirated 1.8 litre engine. The first Exige developed 177hp in its “street version”, and an upgraded track version was available with 190hp. The car was impressively quick, achieving a 4.7 second sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. The Exige was built over a span of more than 20 years and in a variety of versions through three different series.
The final series, number three, was launched in 2011 at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and introduced a larger 3.5 litre V6 engine that was taken over from the Evora S. The supercharged power unit was able to develop 345hp and to accommodate the large six-cylinder engine, Lotus had to widen the car by 5cm and lengthen it by 25cm. The third series proved to be a big success, the fanbase loving its uncompromising sportiness that the Lotus make is so reputed for.
In February 2021, Lotus unveiled three final edition models of the Exige that quickly sold out: the Exige Sport 390, Exige Sport 420 and the Exige Cup 430 final edition. The example offered here is the Sport 390 version, featuring a 3.5 litre supercharged V6, which it shared with the wider Exige range, though in the final edition, it was tuned to develop an impressive 397hp with 420Nm of torque. Though considered to be the “entry-level” of the final editions, this version is capable of remarkable acceleration and top speed: 0 to 100km/h is reached in just 3.8 seconds while the odometer tops out at 276km/h… not necessarily what you would call “entry-level”!
Strictly limited, and difficult to find in today’s market, these cars are sought after by collectors, and we are pleased to be offering one of these rare automobiles for sale here.
