Background
Jaguar has always been known for its luxury sporting models and the XK for one was something of a long-term success for the brand. The XK has always been a good car, but it was a sports car more focused towards the luxurious rather than the sporting. Jaguar wanted to address this in 2010 by updating the XK, giving it a new engine and some revisions to its already good suspension systems.
The power unit was swapped out for a 380bhp, 5.0 litre V8 with 380 lb ft of torque, it also received a new diff to put the power to the tarmac. Bilstein was tasked with creating variable dampers in place of Jaguar’s old CATS system, retuning what else remained to give a sportier and more balanced drive.
A front bumper revision topped off the external changes along with new mirrors and LED rear lights. The focus was instead on updating the XK’s poor interior quality with parts nicked from the XF.
The result of all these changes was the same good-looking car but now it had the bite to truly match its bark.
