Background

The Jaguar XF, internal codename X250, continues the Coventry firm’s tradition of engineering beautiful cars that drive and ride extraordinarily well.

Launched in 2007 as a replacement for the somewhat awkward S-Type, it stayed in production for the next eight years.

It was offered as an ‘Sportbrake’ estate as well as a saloon, as well as a range of V6 and V8 petrol engines at launch. Diesel engines came later, and all were automatics in line with the car’s design brief of luxurious, effortless travel, something that might also account for the fact that no fewer than eight different trim levels were offered here.

The car you see here potentially offers 271bhp, enough for a top speed of 155mph after passing 62 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds - and its build year of 2010 coincided with the Jaguar XF winning the What Car? Best Executive Car award for the third consecutive year.

Overview

Being offered as part of an estate sale, ‘BL10 JBL’ is a 2010 Jaguar XFS Portfolio finished in Vapour Grey Metallic and Ivory hide interior with only one owner from new.

Fitted with the three-litre V6 S diesel engine, it is showing just under 38,000 miles on the odometer and in possession of an advisory-free MoT certificate.

Presenting well, this is an opportunity to get your hands on a thoroughly modern, 21st century sporting Jaguar saloon at a very reasonable price.

Exterior

Clearly a much-loved car, the XF has weathered its fourteen years with impressive aplomb. Still offering straight and true panels, everything aligns as well now as it did when it left the factory.

The Vapour Grey Metallic paintwork (colour code LMO) is excellent too, with nothing more than the usual marks every car collects over the years no matter how carefully it is curated. Reassuringly, both the numberplates show the supplying dealer’s name. (Ditto the presence of a Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club sticker in the window.)

As you’d expect on an executive car like this, there’s a smattering of (good) chromework including a magnificent honeycomb grille.

The light lenses, badges, and window glass are all in a very good condition.

The huge 20-inch alloy wheels are in an average condition with some scuffs and nibbling to their rims. Better news comes with the knowledge they’re fitted with a matching set of four Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres.

We will never get tired of telling you that experience shows that matching high-quality tyres are an infallible sign of a caring and mechanically sympathetic owner who is prepared to spend the appropriate amount in maintaining their car properly. Their presence does not, of course, preclude the need for a thorough inspection - something the vendor would welcome, by the way – but it does perhaps give you a shortcut into their attitude towards maintenance.

As for flaws you might want to rectify apart from the alloy wheels, there’s a dink on the lower edge of the offside front wheelarch but that’s about all we can see that would bother most folk.

Interior

The XF took the standard Jaguar fare of leather ‘n’ wood and transformed it into something refreshingly modern. Achingly gorgeous and still contemporary, the usual styling cues are all still there but offered up in a completely new way.

This one is in a staggeringly good condition, too.

The wood, for example, is as glossy and shiny now as it ever was, and it’s completely free of chips, scratches, and other damage.

It’s the same story with the Ivory hide (trim code NED) seats, door cards, dashboard, and console. All are in a near pristine condition with only light creasing to the outer edge of the driver’s seat.

Even the headlining is clean and taut, and the umbrella is still in its wrapper.

There are brushed-metal controls plus, of course, lots of chrome. There are Bowers & Wilkins speakers, too as well as a heated windscreen, automatic lights, and a digital multi-media screen.

The boot is as well presented as the rest of the interior. The carpet is protected by a Jaguar rubber boot liner. The space-saver spare wheel and tool kit are present and correct and neither look to have ever been used.

It’s still recognisably a Jaguar but one that’s now bang up to date and its condition is a testament to the way the car has been looked after over the years and we can’t see anything that will demand your attention.

However, the circumstances of the sale mean we  have no information as to whether everything works.

Mechanical

The circumstances also mean the paperwork is more sparse than usual. However, the service history booklet does records the following:

  • 24.03.2010 and 4 miles – delivered from Guy Salmon Jaguar Oxford
  • 08.04.2011 and 3,167 miles – service by Guy Salmon Jaguar Oxford
  • 21.05.2012 and 9,500 miles – service by Guy Salmon Jaguar Oxford
  • 17.04.2014 and 14,394 miles – service by Ridgeway Jaguar

A Post-it note suggests another service was carried out but offers no details other than the cost. Of course, Jaguar may be able to provide the new owner with more details if the dealer network has carried out any other work.

As you can see in the video, it starts, idles, and revs well and while the engine itself is a little grubby, it makes all the right (subdued) noises and none of the wrong ones.

That said, the ‘service required’ light is on, as is the warning for the smart key battery, so prospective bidders should budget for that.

The underside is remarkably clean and even still features some of the factory paper stickers.

NB: The tyre pressure warning light is on, so they will need to be checked before the car is driven.

History

The XF’s MoT certificate is valid until February 2025 and it, like many before including the previous two, was issued with no advisories.

The recent Vehicle History Check is clear, and the Jaguar comes with its full book pack and the service history booklet.

Summary

With a guide price of between £7,000 and £9,000, we think this Jaguar XF offers an awful lot for the money given its cosmetic condition.

But we accept the need for the wheels to be refurbished and the car serviced will affect its value, so we are pleased to be able to offer it with no reserve.
