“ This 2007 Jaguar Sovereign ticks all the boxes. It’s finished in stunning pearlescent grey and has a luxurious Barley leather interior with front and rear heated seats. ”

As a re-import, it’s not been subject to years of British salt and weather, retaining its superb condition.

Background

The third-generation Jaguar XJ, or X350 as it is known internally, was launched in 2003. Fitted with a range of V6 and naturally aspirated and supercharged V8 petrol engines, Ford also donated its 2.7-litre V6 diesel for those for whom frugality was the priority.

Featuring a bonded and riveted aluminium monocoque chassis that is both 40% lighter and 50% stiffer than that of the outgoing model, the styling of its aluminium body panels is a gentle development of the rounded, hooded-headlight style that had become the XJ range’s signature look. Both short- and long-wheelbase versions were available to order depending on whether agility or decadence was your aim.

All are fitted with a multi-link, four-wheel computer-controlled adaptive air suspension, which means the X350 handles as well as it rides. With a top speed of 155mph after passing 62mph in 6.6 seconds, the 4.2-litre V8 you see here really is the epitome of the Grace, Space, and Pace that had been embedded within the Coventry firm’s DNA for half a century.

Overview

This stunning 2007 Jaguar Sovereign has spent its entire life in Japan, where, as evident from its condition, it has been exceptionally well cared for. The 2007 luxury Sovereign was registered in the UK on 1st August 2024.

As a Sovereign model, the specification is high-end, featuring the stunning pearlescent grey exterior, luxurious Barley ruched and piped leather, memory seats, walnut trim, a chrome mesh grille, 19” alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, and Bi-Xenon headlights, to name just a few. Additionally, the car has very low mileage, having covered only 37,094 miles in 17 years, and it comes with Japanese service documents.

It’s also worth noting that, despite its age, this Jaguar is ULEZ-compliant. Although it boasts a 4.2-litre engine, the road tax is only £345 per year.

The seller says "its a re-import and not an Import (UK Manufactured) so insurance is per any UK supplied RHD model with no loadings.  It has the standard factory fitted alarm and immobiliser and is full UK specification.  Since it has never been used on salt road surfaces it is critically free of corrosion to the bodywork (Aluminium Oxidisation), brake lines and all steel components. Any inspection by AA RAC or specialist is welcome. And it comes with 2 full remote keys too!"

Exterior

There’s no doubt about it: the Jaguar Sovereign, even after several years, still presents itself as an outstanding luxury saloon.

The first thing you'll notice is the stunning pearlescent grey paintwork, which is in superb condition considering the Jaguar's age. From the front, the chrome bumper inserts are in excellent condition, the wire mesh chrome grille is equally pristine, and the headlights have a bright finish with no discolouration or damage to the lenses. The front parking sensors function correctly and, moving further up, the bonnet aligns as you would expect, with equal gaps along each edge, and the windscreen remains free of noticeable scratches.

Looking down the long, ding- and dent-free flanks, the doors have uniform shut lines. Chrome detailing extends to the door handles, all of which are in excellent condition. The side windows are well-maintained, with no excessive scratches, and the seals are in good order.

At the rear, there’s a story similar to the front; the chrome bumper inserts retain a bright finish. The parking sensors work flawlessly, and the rear light lenses are undamaged. The car is equipped with factory-fitted five-spoke 19” alloy wheels, which are in good condition with no signs of corrosion on the faces, and the tyres have a healthy amount of tread remaining.

Interior

Opening the Jaguar's door reveals an abundance of luxury leather and walnut. The electric, heated, three-position memory Barley ruched leather seats feature optional coloured piping and, thanks to the car's low mileage, remain in excellent condition. The door cards are adorned with walnut trim panels, which are in good condition and free from any damage or scuffs.

Sitting behind the leather and walnut steering wheel, you'll find the rim and buttons show no excessive wear. All instruments are functioning correctly, with the odometer displaying 37,094 miles and no warning lights illuminated when the engine is running. The upper section of the dashboard matches the steering wheel, with the upper sections of the door cards, while the lower half is trimmed to match the seats in Barley leather. The walnut fascia is immaculate, free from any crazing or cracking.

The switchgear is in good condition, with no signs of wear to the lettering. Both the air conditioning and cruise control are reported to be working correctly. The factory touch-screen head unit is in place and includes satellite navigation. The walnut trim extends to the centre console, which is also free from any damage.

Throughout the cabin, the carpets are in good order, showing no signs of excessive wear, as you would expect given the mileage. A set of factory mats is fitted. Overhead, the headlining has been replaced and is consequently in like-new condition. Inside, the boot is clean and tidy, and the Jaguar CD multi-changer and satellite navigation are present.

Mechanical

Fitted with the superb 4.2-litre V8 engine, this Jaguar produces approximately 294bhp, which is sufficient to propel the luxury saloon from 0-60mph in around 6.3 seconds. The Jaguar starts up without hesitation, emitting the reassuring sound of the V8 burble, settling into a smooth idle, and running with no reported issues. The engine bay is clean and well-presented, with the engine covers in good condition.

On the road, the vendor reports that the gear changes are smooth, and the Jaguar pulls strongly through each gear. The suspension is also described as smooth, as expected from a luxury saloon, with no knocks or bangs from any corner of the car.

Following an MoT carried out in June, the brakes are functioning correctly, bringing the car to a halt in a straight line without any juddering through the pedal.

History

Since the car arrived in the UK, the vendor has spent approximately £1,800 on preparation work, including the relevant adjustments needed for a Japanese import, ensuring everything is shipshape and ready for the new custodian to take ownership of this desirable low-mileage Jaguar Sovereign.

The car comes with a good amount of Japanese history. All of the owner’s manuals are present, along with two remote keys, and an MoT was carried out on 19th June 2024, which passed with no advisories.
