Background
International Harvester’s Farmall ‘M’ model replaced the Farmall F-30 and was the row-crop version of the McCormick-Deering W-6. Rated for three 14-inch (36 cm) ploughs, the M line was manufactured primarily in the USA, but also in England and Australia.
Some 270,140 Ms were produced over a-year run, making it one of the most successful of IH’s ‘letter series’ tractors.
Fitted with an International Harvester C248 inline overhead valve four-cylinder engine of 4.1-litres, producing 38PS, the M had a six-volt electrical system, a 5-speed sliding-gear transmission (plus reverse), and hydraulic lifts. Modular in design, the M allowed for interchangeable assemblies and compatibility with other ‘letter series’ models.
Standard Ms had narrow front wheels on the centre-line, as seen on this example.
