Background
The Honda Monkey was launched in 1961 as a small motorcycle, made for convenience over comfort, but being so small made them ideal for transportation. Honda used the original Z100 bikes in their own amusement park, it featured a Super cub engine and 5” diameter wheels. With the bikes such a hit, Honda decided to produce a road legal version, now called the CZ100.
These were produced in small numbers at the beginning, but by 1967 the Z250M, with a lowered seat and fold down handlebars, were available from most Honda dealers and so the craze started for the Monkey bikes. In 1974 the design changed into more of a mini motorbike, with a 50cc 4-stroke engine, single full size seat and a normal style fuel tank, and suspension to the front and rear. The Monkey has retained that look up until 2017, when the bikes were discontinued.
