Background

The collaboration between Ford Motor Company and Carroll Shelby in the creation of the GT500 Mustang stands as a pivotal moment in automotive history, exemplifying the fusion of engineering excellence and performance innovation. Beginning in the mid-1960s, this partnership combined Ford's manufacturing prowess with Carroll Shelby's legendary racing expertise to produce a series of high-performance Mustangs that would redefine the American muscle car landscape. The culmination of this collaborative effort, the GT350 and GT500 Mustangs, emerged as true icons, characterized by their commanding power, aggressive styling, and remarkable handling. Through meticulous engineering, aerodynamic refinements, and the infusion of cutting-edge technology, they became a testament to the potential when industry giants join forces. This venerable collaboration not only birthed automotive masterpieces but also set the stage for future generations of high-performance vehicles, leaving an indelible mark on the automobile industry.

The first-generation Ford SVT (Special Vehicle Team) Shelby Mustang GT500 (S-197), built from 2007-2009 and offered in coupe or convertible guise, marked a significant milestone in the evolution of the GT500 model line. Powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine producing 500 horsepower, the GT500 exhibited an impressive fusion of raw power and modern technology. Its iconic styling paid homage to its heritage while embracing contemporary design elements. This inaugural SVT GT500 set the precedent for subsequent generations, showcasing Ford's commitment to pushing performance boundaries. As the GT500 model line continued to evolve, each iteration built upon the foundation established by the first-generation model, refining aerodynamics, enhancing handling capabilities, and elevating power outputs to unprecedented levels. The legacy of the first-generation GT500 remains palpable in the DNA of its successors, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and performance that continues to captivate enthusiasts worldwide.

Overview

This 2009 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Coupe represents the final year of the first-generation of the sub-model that was developed by a rekindled collaboration between Ford's acclaimed Special Vehicle Team and Shelby. Finished in striking Torch Red Clearcoat paint with over-the-top Le Mans racing stripes, GT500 side stripes, and Black leather interior, it is now being offered for sale in as-new condition from single California ownership and a mind-boggling 631-miles from new!

Exterior

Building on the nostalgic stripes and decals, the car also presents many aggressive exterior styling cues reminiscent of the model's bloodline. Such features include an aluminum hood with air extractors and racing-style pins, massive front bumper with integrated fog lights and carbon fiber air dam secured by metal supports (the aerodynamic carbon fiber accents extend along the rockers to the rear), flared fenders, rear wheel air vents, C-pillar corrugated quarter-window covers, rear deck-lid spoiler, Shelby GT500 and SVT badging, vintage racing-style fuel filler, and finished with 18" x 9.5" Mach bright-machined aluminum wheels wrapped in race-inspired Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires with SVT center caps accented by red brake calipers (Willwood up front and Ford SVT in the rear). The paint, decals, chrome, and wheels all look to be in showroom condition indicative of the mileage and a lifetime of indoor storage.

Interior

The interior appointments of the 2009 GT500 exemplify a harmonious blend of performance-oriented design and refined comfort. The Black with Black accent leather sport bucket seats look impeccable, and the White embossed Cobra logo on the headrests add a touch flair to the purposeful, driver-centric interior. Everywhere you look is a Shelby GT500, Cobra, Ford Racing, or SVT logo scattered throughout the interior, like the steering wheel, center console, door sills, carpets, pedals, cup holders, dash, and gauges. Of course, there’s the obligatory dash plaque with Carroll Shelby’s signature and the VIN number. Red accents all-around, including the throwback Q-Ball shifter, match the exterior and continue the theme of added flair. There’s no way your passengers will forget what a special car this is! Other appreciated interior features include racing-style A-Pillar gauges including a boost meter and the Shaker 500 Audio System with 6-disc CD changer and MP3 capability. The interior appears immaculate in the photos provided; even the carpets are still wrapped in delivery plastic.

Mechanical

But don’t you worry, this isn’t just some appearance package! Under the hood is a supercharged 5.4L DOHC V-8 engine with 9.0 PSI boost making 500hp and 480 lb-ft of torque that’s mated to the always-appreciated 6-speed manual transmission. Other mechanical features include forged-steel crankshaft and I-Beam connecting rods, dual 60-mm electronic throttle body, 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS) with traction control, vented front and rear rotors, SVT-tuned suspension with unique shocks and springs, limited-slip differential, and a throaty tuned stainless-steel X-pipe exhaust. Safety is also of utmost importance with front and side airbags, and the GT500 gets a maximum 5-star Government Safety Rating for driver and passenger front-end collision, front seat side impact, and rollover crashes. Consistent with the rest of the car, the engine compartment has tons of flair and logos, while its condition appears impeccable, as does the undercarriage.

History

Coming from single California ownership and presented in as-new showroom condition, this 2009 Ford SVT Mustang Shelby GT500 Coupe is now being offered for sale with just 631-miles on the odometer, factory books, tools, full-size matching spare, Cobra keychain, a clean Carfax Vehicle History Report, a MonroneyLabel window sticker, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Summary

Let’s face it, what’s not to like about this race-inspired beast-in-the-streets?! It has the looks, it has the performance, and it has the pedigree. It’s mileage and condition are unparalleled; now all that’s left is to bid with confidence.
