Background

Introduced in 2005, the fifth generation Mustang saw Ford introduce muscle car styling that echoed that of Lee Lacocca’s original, which dates back to 1965. It came with a range of power plants that could once again provide proper thunder. 2011 saw the engines undergo a refresh, with the 3.7-litre V6 now good for 305bhp and 280lf ft of torque, while GT models had the ‘Coyote’ 5.0-litre V8 (an example of which we have here), and the Shelby GT500 and Boss 302 versions took things crazier. 2013 saw the introduction of the latest model updates including a new larger grille, standard HID headlights and new LEDs up front. The V8 model got blacked out taillights with a new instrument display for premium models and LED fog lights

Overview

This is a manual, two owners from new, left-hand drive, 2014 5 litre Mustang GT with a uniquely low mileage, having ticked up just over 3000 miles on the odometer. The car dons its completely original factory state. The vendor purchased this motor from Chrysler in the US when it was just 6 months old and had 1000 miles on the clock. He’s owned it for nine years hence. The car was shipped over from the US by Sigma Automotive who managed the import and SVA testing to ensure it was suitable for UK roads, like changing the lights to UK spec. The car features a plethora of optional extras, including the GT track package, Brembo brakes, 3.73 ratio LTD slip W/Torsen, 1000 watt shaker pro system, the GT coupe accessory PKG 5, a pedestal rear spoiler, ambient lighting, a stainless steel dual exhaust, F/Racing chrome cam covers, chin spoiler and a custom in garage cover with Shelby logo. The car is also being sold with additional original extra parts, including: two exhaust back boxes, a standard air filter, standard gear shifter, a front pumper lower lip spoiler and a spare Shelby gold racing stripe, and two car keys.

The car has clearly been well looked after and barely used. The vendor explains: “It’s never been used on a stop start journey and never seen any rain”. He went on to say: “I hardly use any of my cars; the Mustang only comes out on nice sunny days, but most of the time it sits in the garage”. That being said, he reminisced about a lovely drive he took it on from Woking to Norfolk but insisted he’s never taken it over 80mph, which must be rare for a Mustang driver. The vendor is a reluctant seller but he has many classic cars and, in his words: “It’s not fair having a car like this not being used. It would be lovely to have someone else enjoy it for what it is”.

He loves this car because: “Ford only made this model from 2013-2014. It comes with the same 5 litre engine of the 2015 model but it’s the last shape of the proper muscle car, plus it’s great that it’s a manual V8”. Overall, it’s clear to see that this is as close to a brand-new car as a 2014 Mustang GT could be. It’s spent most of its time stored in a heated garage connected to a CTEK charger, so it’s been really well pampered. The vendor’s closing words are: “There are no skeletons in the cupboard. The car is what it is, it’s like a new car. I just can’t fault it”.

Exterior

At the front is a long, sloping bonnet with a power-dome bulge that adds to its aggressive look and functional heat extractors, which help to cool the engine. The grille is black and features the iconic Mustang horse emblem at its centre and two in-set front lights. The rectangular headlights slant slightly back, giving the car a sleek, aerodynamic look. Then there’s the Shelby gold racing stripe which complements the glistening black paintwork to make this car a real head-turner.

Moving to the sides, the car has a distinctive profile. The car's wide stance is emphasised by flared fenders, which house large, 19-inch prem wheels. The rear of the car is just as impressive, featuring a fastback-style roofline and a raised deck lid. In addition to this there is the GT track package with the car. As well as the following features:

  • Brembo Breaks
  • 3.73 Ratip LTD Slip
  • 19" Prem wheels
  • 1000Watt Shaker Pro System
  • GT Coupe Accesory Package 5, Pedistal Rear Spoiler
  • Quater window louvers
  • Side scoops
  • HID Projector Lights
  • Stainless steal dual exhaust
  • Ford Racing Borla Attack Back Boxes
  • Racing chrome cam covers
  • F/R Quick gear shifters
  • Chin Spoiler
  • Cold air intake
  • CUSTOM in garage cover with Shelby logo

Interior

The black leather interior complements the car's muscular and aggressive exterior. The seats are upholstered in black leather with contrasting white stitching, which adds a touch of sophistication to the cabin. The sport bucket seats provide excellent support for spirited driving, detailed with a white stitched leather strip to add a sense of craftmanship and attention to detail. The dashboard and centre console are finished in black and feature an uncluttered design. The metallic trim gives a sporty touch throughout. All of the controls are easily accessible to the driver, aided by the leather-wrapped, multi-function steering wheel. The short-sticked, spherical stainless steel gear stick offers a short throw for a satisfying gear shift, complementing the metallic accents on the steering wheel and dash. The car's instrumentation is easy to read, with a large speedometer taking centre stage. The car also has a premium sound system, which includes a six-speaker audio system, a CD player and satellite radio. The black carpets are plush and protected by rubber mats. The door cards, door sills and black headlining appear to be in fine order throughout.

Mechanical

The Coyote is a 5.0 litre, naturally aspirated V8 engine, which produces 420BHP. The Coyote engine was designed to compete with the Charger Hemi and the Camaro’s LS3. Since 2011, the Coyote engine has been in all Mustang GTs and can reach a top speed of 170mph with and 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds. Under the bonnet is exceptionally clean – there is no evidence of leakage and everything looks to be in its right and proper place. The vendor recounts: “When I took it in for a service Ford couldn’t believe how clean it is underneath, all the labels are still there; the exhaust is like brand new. It’s like a new car”.

History

Even though the car has barely been used, the vendor’s been fastidious in ensuring that the car has an oil and lubricant service every year, so the coolant and brake fluid can be changed. The vendor says: “The logbook shows there’s nothing worn on it. Even the tyres have no wear on them but it’s more to make sure there are the Ford stamps to prove a record of the car being looked after”. The car has had two owners and it had the airbags recalled by Ford a few years back.

Summary

This has got to be one of the most recognisable shapes in American motoring history and the wonderful thing is that whilst it may look like a million dollars, it certainly doesn’t cost it.

The movie-star appeal combined with the everyday practicality, decent comfort and reasonable size all make it a highly desirable car. As far as its obvious rivals are concerned this is the smallest and lightest, therefore the most economical and potentially quickest. This car has clearly been much loved and well looked after, so we think a prospective buyer will have to part with somewhere between £30,000 and £35,000 to take this car home.
