Fraser Jackson - Consignment Specialist Message Fraser

“ Looked after by a Ferrari Main Dealer, with plenty of invoices to show how well cared for it has been. ”

Get that thumping quad-cam V12 engine, a wondrously evocative interior, and the ability to propel four proper-sized adults at speeds bordering on the ridiculous.

Background

Not all Ferraris come with two seats. The Italian legends also make cars for those lucky people who have friends and family that want to come along for the ride. And what a ride it will be, especially if the car in question is a 612 Scaglietti.

Designed to replace the 456, the 612 is an enormously competent machine. It’s around 60kgs lighter and 60% stiffer than the car it replaced, largely due to the all-aluminium superstructure, a clever piece of engineering which comprises an alloy spaceframe to which the lightweight body panels are welded.

The beating heart, however, is a thumping great 5.7-litre V12 engine mated either to a six-speed manual or a semi-automatic ‘F1’ gearbox, both of which feed the car’s 533bhp and 434lb/ft of torque to the rear wheels.

Fast is an understatement! The 0-62mph official sprint time of just four seconds merely hints at the performance potential. Find a deserted runway and the Scaglietti very nearly joins that exclusive 200mph club, missing out by just 1mph. Add in a following wind and who knows…

But the 612 is not just about straight-line speed, it handles beautifully too. Active damping and adaptive suspension are fitted, with steering wheel mounted controls allowing the driver to select Normal or Sport modes, while the integrated Electronic Stability and Traction Control System was a first for Ferrari.

History tells us that the 612 Scaglietti lapped Ferrari’s famous Fiorano test track around six seconds quicker that the outgoing 456.

Even so, most would consider the 612 to be more of a grand tourer than out and out sports car, despite its mind-bending turn of speed. Refinement is first rate, and the interior is more practical and commodious than anything that Ferrari had produced before.

Bonhams|Cars Online sold the stunning Grey example offered below to the vendor back in August 2019. Since then, it’s been used and enjoyed for circa 650 miles and has just had a fresh service with the cambelt replaced to ensure that this mean mother of a V12 GT is absolutely on the button.

Overview

The V5c document indicates that a total of five owners from new have enjoyed the 612’s wares. You will also find a profusion of invoices for maintenance, servicing and other restorative works. These show that this Ferrari has been very well cared for and received the necessary financial outlay, when necessary, to keep it in fine fettle.

There’s an invoice for £3076.56 (dated 15/07/2022) from DnB Mechanical Services in Norwich for dashboard removal, the re-trimming (carried out by Autotrim Ltd, Norwich) for £1855.20 to rectify the common 612 issue of dashboard leather shrinkage, which results in splitting of the hide.

The 612 Scaglietti also comes with a current MOT test certificate, which runs until 24/10/2024, and has an impressive service history, with the following stamps in its service book:

  • 13/04/2007, 3888 miles – H.R. Owen, London
  • 09/07/2007, 4559 miles – H.R. Owen, London
  • 29/07/2009, 18,836 miles – H.R. Owen, London
  • 02/09/2010, 27,984 miles – Graypaul, Nottingham
  • 13/06/2011, 32,870 miles – Terry Keys Motorsport, Silverstone
  • 18/12/2012, 41,803 miles – Bob Houghton, Cheltenham
  • 24/06/2014, 44,772 miles – Bob Houghton, Cheltenham
  • 12/11/2015, 47,128 miles – Bob Houghton, Cheltenham
  • 10/10/2016, 47,673 miles – DK Engineering, Herts
  • 20/11/2017, 48,724 miles – DK Engineering, Herts
  • 12/02/2018, 48,724 miles – DK Engineering, Herts
  • 14/09/2020, 49,199 miles, DnB Mechanical Services, Norwich
  • 09/09/2022, 49,267miles, DnB Mechanical Services, Norwich
  • 23/04/2024, 49,599miles - Jardine Colchester Ferrari (Cambelt service)

This is undoubtedly one of the best examples of the breed currently available. It’s ready to be driven, slotted into a collection or simply parked in your garage and admired once an hour, every hour.

Exterior

It’s quite a striking looking thing, is this 612 Scaglietti. Contemporary Ferraris, even their GTs, with their vents, spoilers and numerous other addenda can tend to look as if they’ve driven rather speedily through Halfords on the way to supplying dealers. Not this car, it is old school: understated, stylish and yet, still with just a modicum of outright visual aggression.

That’s further enhanced by its Silverstone Grigio and body-coloured alloy wheel combination. The latter remain consummately clean and wear Pirelli P Zero tyres (245/40 R19 front, and 285/40 R19 rear) that still look to have plenty of life in ‘em yet.

When we last sold the car in 2019 the then owner had just spent a five-figure sum prepping the car for sale; at the time the bodywork presented in stunning fashion and having seen only a relatively small annual mileage since that still holds true.

It is a stunning example of an undoubtedly exalted breed.

Interior

Tan leather is surely Maranello’s ultimate go-to cabin colour, and it works beautifully set against the exterior Silverstone Grigio. The visual combination is superb; it’s a car that has had more than one or two of us here at Bonhams|Cars Online glancing over our shoulders when passing it in our warehouse.

Ensconce yourself within and the cabin provides a light and luxurious ambience; it’s an interior environment to make devouring large mileages an absolute pleasure. Especially when you have a screaming V12 ready to have its taps opened.

The work to the leather dash top means that it now presents as it did when the car left the factory. There’s a touch of mild decolouration to the driver’s seat bolster; however, a clean by a good quality upholsterer or valeter should see this smartened up relatively easily, if the next owner deems that necessary.

The rest of the leather (and there’s a lot of it!) is clean and in excellent condition, as are the carpets, door-cards and headlining.

The full Ferrari toolkit is still present in the boot, with electronic battery, tyre pump, spanners and screwdrivers all housed in their leather case. You will also find the Becker Silverstone CD multichanger unit there, too, which does need the code input, and the passenger window only operates from the drivers side.

Mechanical

3 minutes 48 seconds. That’s the exact time on our Video Review that we fire up this car’s smooth-spinning V12; the quad-exit exhaust note kicks in at 4mins 43 seconds, and it’s a growler!

We have had it out for a quick blast, and it sounds even better at full chat. This is one fast car and one heck of a way to transport four people. It performs exactly as it should,

Thanks to a surfeit of black plastic covers, many modern cars miss a trick with their under-bonnet presentation; no such worries here, for it’s a red powder-coated banquet for the eyes. The engine bay presents very smartly, with the bonnet still retaining its heat insulation.

The 612’s underside looks to be in excellent fettle with few signs of scuffing to any of the undertrays.

History

All the 612’s owner’s hand- and service-books (nicely presented in their original tan leather document wallet) are present. You will also find a large selection of invoices from a variety of specialists for works carried out.

The car comes with two key fobs.

A recent online vehicle check is included and shows no known issues with either outstanding finance, theft, import/export, tax or MOT.

Please visit the documents section of the gallery of this listing where you will find photos to support our claim that this car has been maintained and looked after to a very high standard.

Summary

When buying a supercar, you need proof that it’s been serviced regularly and fettled when required, and this example’s history file provides evidence of both. It has had 14 services since new, including its recent cambelt change/service; further to that, a large sheaf of invoices provides evidence of both reparative and restorative measures, as well as other general maintenance. The car also comes with a spare set of alloy wheels.

The rest? Well, you still get that tub-thumping quad-cam V12 engine, a wondrously evocative interior, and the ability to propel four proper-sized adults at speeds bordering on the ridiculous.

To gain access to the above we think you’ll pay somewhere between £40,000 and £45,000 – prancing horse bargain territory? We certainly think so.

12 cylinders in V formation is enough to whet any petrolhead’s appetite, so why wait?
