Background

Back in 1953, Chevrolet's launch of a two-seater sports car was a radical departure for a marque hitherto associated almost exclusively with sensible family transport. Based on the 1952 EX-122 show car, the Corvette made use of existing GM running gear and a shortened chassis frame, around which was wrapped striking Harley Earl-styled fibre-glass coachwork.

Motive power came from Chevrolet's 235.5ci (3.8-litre) overhead-valve straight six and, unusually for a sports car, there was automatic transmission, a feature that attracted much adverse criticism at the time.

Many iterations of the Corvette have come and gone since then.

The 7th iteration of the Corvette was introduced with the 2014 model year and was the first to bear the ‘Stingray’ name since 1976.

The seventh-generation Z06 arrived in 2015 with a new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine.

This ferocious unit produced 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, making it GM’s most powerful engine at the time.

The new ZR1 (the fourth generation of the model) arrived in 2019 and, with a monstrous 755 bhp and 715 lb-ft of torque, instantly became the most powerful and fastest Corvette ever produced, capable of 341km/h.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

VIN: 1G1Y92D92K5800617.

This LHD auto 2019 Corvette ZR1 has just 86kms on the odometer and is, in effect, a brand-new car.

We started and ran the car briefly and were able to read the odometer. When we tried again, some fuse or relay (presumably) had failed and we have been unable to start or run it since, or get power to the doors, dashboard or glove compartment.

It was bought new for the vendor’s collection of static display cars in 2019.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

Aside from its current electrical issue, the car is more or less immaculate in every respect and is barely acquainted with any sort of driving or road surface.

Exterior

The bodywork is very good and is free of any dinks, dents, creases or folds of any note.

So, too, is the dark grey paintwork.

The wheels look to be in excellent order, as are the tyres.

The lights, lenses, badging, exterior trim and the various carbon-fibre inserts and panels are all good.

The lift-out carbon-fibre Targa roof fits snugly and is easily removed and fitted.

There are a couple of scuffs at the rear where some dealership (presumably) badging has been removed.

There are a couple of small scuffs on the driver’s side front wheel arch guard and one or two scratches on the carbon-fibre front splitter.

That’s it.

Otherwise, it’s in dealership-fresh condition.

Interior

The interior is everything you would expect to find in a car with delivery kilometres on the odometer.

The protective plastic film is still evident in a few places.

The black and grey upholstery is in first-class condition, as is the headlining.

The door cards, carpets and mats are also very good. There are a couple of marks (of the easily removable kind) on the door cards and kick plates caused by the ingress and egress of feet.

The luggage area is equally good and contains some tools and a fire extinguisher.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t been able to run the car for more than a minute or so.

Mechanical

The engine looks unused (because it is), as do the car’s undersides.

History

This car comes with no history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

Provided that the engine, electrics and mechanicals prove to be as good and amenable to recommissioning as the rest of this time-warp car, then this must surely be one of the best ZR1s you could hope to find – and at a price that will be somewhat lower than the cost of a brand-new example.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €30,000 - €50,000.
