The BMW M5 F10 might, despite the name, have moved from V10 power to V8 but that was by no means a retrograde step because Evo magazine said of it “No other super saloon offers the BMW M5’s combination of mind-bending straight-line performance, dynamic ability and everyday usability. Some will mourn the loss of the previous M5’s manic V10, but the new 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 returns even more performance and uses less fuel. The F10 generation’s dual-clutch gearbox is a vast improvement over the old car’s SMG ‘box, too."
How fast is it? Well, the 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged engine’s 552bhp and 502 lb.ft of torque allow the mighty M5 to hit 62mph in 4.3 seconds on its way to a governed top speed of 155mph, a speed that could be raised to 190mph if the original owner splashed out on the M Driver’s Package.
It is very far from being a one-trick pony though because Pistonheads wrote of it: “Such fat, easy power combined with a double-clutch gearbox and an upgraded chassis - around 50 per cent more rigid than the E60’s - helped the F10 to a 7:55 ’Ring time” – and while we are all a bit bored of hearing about the Nürburgring by now, that’s a helluva performance for a car that weighs 1,950kgs, isn’t it?"
