“ Great Condition and History Throughout ”

The E93 has all the attributes of the e92 hard top variant but with one massive bonus, on the right day in the right weather with the right road and the roof down, this car will absolutely not fail to put you in the best mood. Being submersed in that glorious NA V8 symphony with endless headroom will only further add to the driving nirvana this car can offer. What more can you ask for our estimate of £18,000-£22,000?

Background

The first and only standard production M3 powered by a V8 engine caused concern for die-hard M3 devotees, with worries it might spoil the agile, sharp handling characteristics known and loved in previous versions. The loyal legions needn’t have fretted however as, with a little weight loss, the E9X range was widely praised by fans and critics alike with comments such as ‘the best, most complete car in the world’, ‘the finest car on the market, period’ and ‘the greatest all-round car in the world’ being batted about.

Introduced shortly after the E92 hardtop variant, the E93 convertible version, with its power retractable hard top, was a firm favourite of the bunch and continues to look sleek and modern to this day. The E9X series is perhaps not the most idealised M3 but it is certainly one of the best versions from the lineage.

Overview

This E93 M3 has been owned by the seller on two separate occasions, and with only 69,525 miles on the clock, it’s safe to say that it has been well looked after. This of course is backed up by the strong main dealer history and complete maintenance book that comes with the car. The last MOT was done on the 3rd of March this year and resulted in a clean, first-time pass.

The seller has kept the car in mainly original condition with the only addition being the Modstock exhaust, allowing the mighty V8 noise to be showcased in all its sonorous glory. The need to further add to the car was not felt due to the very generous factory specification including adaptive headlights with high-beam assist, front and rear parking sensors, multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, voice control and dual-zone climate control. It also has heated and electric front seats (with 2-position driver’s memory), iDrive with Sat-Nav, TV receiver, DAB and USB. They really ticked all the boxes on the spec sheet by the sounds of it. We will go into a few more details in the coming sections but it’s safe to say that this car has likely been maintained with a ‘no-expense spared’ mindset from the current seller.

Exterior

Some hold the E9X series in high regard, being a naturally aspirated V8, and despite what you might think of current BMW design language I think we can all agree that the subtle bulges and flares of this M3 will ensure that it ages as well as the heroic E46. To further accentuate the body lines and performance styling on this M3, the Space Grey Metallic paint with high-gloss Shadowline trim is a classic and well-loved combination.

The paint work itself has some stone chips as to be expected and some light scuffing to the passenger door, the seller however assures that these could be sorted with a paint correction detail and reports that they are not deep scratches. The top section of the passenger door has been resprayed and the wing mirror glass is said to need replacing but other than these small details, the outside looks to be in good condition. A major benefit is the wheels which have been refurbished by Jardine in Milton Keynes, resulting in some fantastic looking and, from what we can see, curb-free alloys shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres which look to have plenty of tread left on them.

Interior

You’ll find black trim and black leather upholstery inside the cabin, to match the Shadowline exterior trim, and again we find the interior in as good a condition as the exterior. There are some minor creases to the front leather but no damage to speak of from what we can see. The bolsters too look to have held their shape and structure well. BMWs of this era tend to wear on the rubberised plastic sections, especially around high traffic areas such as the steering wheel spokes and the window controls. This car has some wear around those areas, but it is minor, within the normal amount you’d expect from a well-taken-care-of car and not something you’d likely pick up on unless really scrutinising.

Moving on inside the car, the dash is all in good condition and the seller reports all electrics are working well. The rear seats look barely to have been used and the boot area looks neat, tidy, and free from any obvious damage.

With the roof down, the M3 takes on a sleek and missile like look whilst giving you full access to that V8 roar. BMW really did make a good-looking convertible with the E93 and this particular car looks to be a fine example.

Mechanical

From the engine bay photos, what little of the bodywork we can see is in good condition with the strut towers being visually solid. The seller tells us that during their ownership (twice, remember) this car has only been used in the dry summer months and garage stored whenever not in use. By this admission we could assume that the car would have avoided much of the worst of the UK’s metal-dissolving, salt-covered roads and is in good condition underneath.

Back under the bonnet, there has been some minor work carried out in the name of maintenance and general upkeep. As mentioned, the throttle actuators were replaced in 2019. In addition to this, the air intake pipe has been re-routed and the front exhaust manifold gaskets and differential input seal have been replaced - no small oily puddles on the driveway for the new owner, then.

The seller reports good mechanical condition and tells us they expect the car to perform well for many, many more miles as a rapid and rewarding daily driver or exciting open top summer cruiser.

In addition to the factory spec listed in a previous section, the car comes with the owner’s book pack, service book, various invoices, V5c and two keys. Some more highlights from the spec list are as follows:
