RESERVE LOWERED
First unveiled in 1990 and remaining in production for nine years, the E31-generation BMW 8-Series was aimed at the high-performance GT market, with its unusually glamorous wedge-shaped styling and pillar less bodywork looking to attract those with a little extra cash, looking to stand out wherever they go.
Powered by a mixture of V8 and V12 engines ranging from 4.0-litres to 5.6-litres in displacement and a choice of either a six-speed manual or 4/5 speed automatic transmissions, a total of over 1.5 billion Deeutsche Mark was spent on the E31’s development, with then-new CAD technology being used for the design of the bodywork to reduce the car’s drag coefficient as much as possible.
Specifically, the 840ci was initially offered with a 4.0-litre M60B40 V8 engine producing 282bhp, though from mid-1995 this was upgraded to the higher displacement 4.4-litre M62B44 engine, though the power output remained unchanged despite the improved torque and better fuel economy.
