Background
For those of you looking for a large dollop of British brute and luxury, the car in this listing could be right up your street. Having replaced the Mulsanne Turbo in 1985, the Bentley Turbo R made improvements such as better handling. This was achieved by increasing the front anti-roll bar rates by 100% and increasing the rear by 60%, whilst increasing the damping. Although the Turbo R was to replace the Mulsanne, the two models were sold side-by-side until 1992.
Towards the end of the production, Bentley produced Turbo S, which was released in 1995. Although the plaques in the engine bay suggest build numbers going to 75, 60 were produced – 29 in right hand drive and 31 in left hand drive. Despite weighing almost 2.5 tonnes this vast slice of luxury is able to 62mph in a respectable 6.1 seconds whilst the top speed is limited to 155mph.
This oomph is courtesy of a 6.7 litre V8 engine, which as the name of the model would suggest, is aided by a turbocharger, helping to produce a power output a little over 400hp. This engine used Bosch Motrinic fuel injection and digital ignition derived from Formula 1 technology. The Turbo S also features a viscous differential, traction control and new 255/55WR17 tyres. The Turbo S was meant to be for short wheelbase applications, but due to confusion, build number 1 was actually long wheelbase.
