“ Classic Styling - Beautiful Cabin - No Reserve ”

A great way to enjoy top-class classic-car ownership, the Bentley T2 is also a sound alternative to the car it's based on, owing to its rarity. Estimated to be valued between $8,000 and $12,000, this luxurious T2 looks like a well-maintained example, ready to be commissioned for use by its new owner.

Background

The brilliance of a Bentley just can't be overshadowed, even by the fact that the T2 was a rebadged Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. It might have shared nearly everything with the Rolls Royce model, but it's rarer. As one would expect, there was no shortage of luxury, power, or class, and as a pre-owned classic, the T2 definitely deserves a second look. The Bentley T2 was on sale between 1977 and 1980 and less than 600 examples were produced — in both standard and LWB versions.

Overview

Listed on The Market is a 1980 Bentley T2. It bears the identification number SBL40509C, has just over 80,000 miles on the odometer, and it's in a rather tasteful LHD spec. Red exterior and a mix of high-quality leather and wood inside. The chassis code confirms it's a 1980s four-door Bentley, although the exterior color seems to have been changed. And looking at the exterior and especially the interior condition of the car, if one of the previous keepers has done a ground-up restoration on it; it appears to be that fresh!

Exterior

There's no running away from the fact that the Bentley T2 was a rebadged version of the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II. Nearly all parts of the two were shared, but despite that, its appeal doesn't diminish.

The listed example's chassis code corresponds to Ivory exterior color, which has, at some point in its life, been changed to the shiny (and quite fitting) red. There seems to be very little to fault about the car's exterior, except some minute paint damage and aging rubber seals.

Interior

It's a Bentley, after all, so the expectation that it has one of the best cabins in the world wouldn't be misplaced. The cabin looks and feels just right: from rear-seat space to how luxurious the interior looks with a great mix of leather and wood. On this 1980 example, the upright dashboard also houses climate control, a neat 'Fasten Seat Belts' warning light, and a Pioneer radio. Everything from the door cards, and the roof lining, to the seats looks fresh — even the buttons and switches do!

Mechanical

The Bentley T2 was powered by a 6.75-liter V8 engine that could help it reach 60 mph in under 10 seconds. A 3-speed automatic gearbox was standard, and while the car wasn't made for harsh driving, it's equipped to handle highway motoring rather well. It's stable and was engineered to handle its fairly large (200-inch+, nearly 5,000 lbs) body with unmatched poise. 40509C appears to have undergone some sort of restoration. While it's not spot-free, the engine bay is clean.

History

According to the chassis plaque, this Bentley T2 was produced in 1980, making it one of the later cars. The T2 followed the T Series and at the end of its life cycle, it was replaced by the Mulsanne.

A great way to enjoy top-class classic-car ownership, the Bentley T2 is also a sound alternative to the car it's based on, owing to its rarity.
