Background
With eight generations and more than 1,250,000 examples built between 1969 and 1986, the Autobianchi A112 is one of Italy's most successful small cars. In its Abarth versions, the first Italian luxury city car was a huge success with the sportiest customers and represented a "gymnasium" for an entire generation of young aspiring drivers at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. The fifth series of the A112 Abarth, in particular, benefits from some major improvements. The 70-hp four-cylinder 1050 cc engine receives electronic ignition and is for the first time mated to a quick five-speed transmission. While this results in a slight reduction in top speed, the new ratio spacing ensures even more brilliant accelerations. Compared to previous models, the look is slightly more restrained: the front hood, for example, is no longer painted in matte black, but in the same colour as the body.
