Background
Produced from 1964 to 1993, the Austin Mini Moke is a compact, front-wheel-drive utility and recreation vehicle originally manufactured by the British Motor Corporation and marketed by Austin. Originally designed to be a lightweight military vehicle akin to the Willys Jeeps and original Land Rovers, the low ride height and small wheels made it unsuitable for military usage.
However, repackaged as a low-cost maintenance, lightweight recreational vehicle, the Moke saw global success and gained a cult following along the way. Between 1964 and 1968, 14,518 Mokes were built in the UK. 26,000 were built in Australia between 1966 and 1981, and 10,000 were built in Portugal between 1980 and 1993 before production finally ended.
