PLEASE NOTE THAT AN AUCTION PREMIUM WILL BE CHARGED, ON TOP OF THE HAMMER PRICE, OF 5% (+VAT). FROM 16TH JAN'23 THIS APPLIES TO ALL AUCTIONS ON THE MARKET, AND FEES ARE MIN €720 / MAX €7,200.

Audi had long had a fine reputation for quality, innovation and design flair.

What was perhaps missing was a little excitement, a halo model to shine a bright light over the rest of the accomplished range.

So, the decision makers at Audi formulated a plan to build a supercar and the R8 was born.

With its mid-engine layout and trademark quattro all-wheel drive, Audi aimed to take on the established protagonists, namely Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari.

The R8 launched in 2006 with a choice of a 4.2-litre V8, boasting 420hp, or a 5.2-litre V10 offering even more power.

The convertible (or Spyder in Audi-speak) followed a couple of years later.

So, what makes the R8 such an attractive proposition? Stunning looks, astonishing real-world performance and genuine everyday usability is just the start.

The car is also less temperamental than some of its rivals, is easier to live with and can be used every day.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 2008 LHD auto Audi R8 4.2-litre comes with no history or service records beyond whatever is shown in the documents section.

It does, however, come with its original sales invoice, specification sheets, handbooks and manuals.

It has just 376 kilometres on its odometer.

It has a Daytona Grey Pearl Effect exterior with a Mustang Brown interior.

The car started and ran when it arrived at the warehouse but we think now requires a new battery in order to do so again. It does, however, takes power from a battery charger and the dashboard lights up.

It was bought new for the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in June 2008.

We haven’t started or driven the car, so our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

Exterior

The car’s bodywork, as you might expect on a car that’s barely acquainted with any kind of road surface, is in excellent condition and there are no dinks, creases or other blemishes to speak of anywhere that we can see.

The ‘Daytona Grey’ paintwork is virtually pristine, as are the wheels, trim, chrome, lights, lenses, badging and all exterior fixtures and fittings.

The extensive carbon-fibre panels and inserts are also very good, as is the transparent engine cover.

There is a little bit of sticky residue at the rear where some bespoke badging once resided. We’re confident this will yield if threatened with some soapy water.

In every way that matters, this is a showroom-fresh car that has spent the last 15 years protected from use, wear and the weather.

Interior

The condition of the interior is every bit as good as its external counterpart.

The Mustang Brown leather upholstery is in excellent, as-new condition and gives no clues to its age.

The passenger seat and the door cards could do with being introduced to a damp cloth and some appropriate cleaning products, but nothing we can see is creased, damaged, at fault or compromised in any other way.

It’s all virtually as good as new, as are the headlining, dashboard, centre console, carpets and mats.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

The forward luggage compartment is in similarly impressive condition.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car comes with no history and no service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

This superb pedigree machine is more or less as it left the factory in 2008.

Untroubled by time, use or wear, it has yet to fully express itself on the roads and passes of Europe (or anywhere else), and must surely be one of the best ways to get yourself an as-new R8 4.2-litre for the price of a 2008 example - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €30,000 - €50,000 plus auction premium, tax €500 bond fee.
