Background
Introduced in October 2000, the B6 generation of Audi A4 was based upon the VW Group platform of the same name, sharing numerous components with the likes of Volkswagen and Skoda, though - naturally - the Audi offering was arguably the most well-equipped and best-built of the era.
Styled by Peter Schreyer and heavily inspired by the C5 Audi A6 of 1997, the B6 was offered in four-door saloon, two-door cabriolet and five-door estate - known as Avant within the Audi lineup - body styles, catering to almost all requirements across the market.
Underneath, all-wheel-drive (through a haldex-based Quattro system) was standard on numerous models and available as an optional extra on others, whilst ESP, ABS and electronic brakeforce distribution were standard fitment across the range.
For those who like to be behind the wheel of an ‘under-the-radar hero’ however, it was to be 2005’s limited-edition model that would prove to be the most desirable; Enter the DTM edition.
Launched in 2005 to celebrate Audi’s success in the 2004 DTM championship, the DTM edition B6 A4. Limited to just 250 units for the UK, these limited-run examples boasted a number of carbon-fibre adornments to the bodywork, a more aggressive front and rear profile, 18-inch alloy wheels, cross-drilled brake rotors, and revised springs and dampers, with a 20mm overall suspension drop.
Inside, the cabin boasted further upgrades with carbon trim and ‘imitation’ Alcantara, whilst mechanically the power from the EA113 2.0-litre engine was boosted to 220bhp and 221lb-ft of torque, but otherwise remained unchanged.
Being such a rare commodity, finding a DTM Edition A4 to start with is a tough challenge, but this one is even more special than the rest…
