Background

Unveiled to an adoring audience in 2005, the first-generation Aston Martin V8 Vantage coupé represented the first time the ‘Vantage’ badging had been used as a standalone model name, rather than denoting a high-performance variant of an existing model.

Continuing the tradition of hand-built GT cars, the V8 Vantage was marketed as the ‘base’ model in the Aston Martin range. The term ‘base’ is, of course, worlds away from what most manufacturers would consider an ‘entry level’ model, meaning in this instance that the focus was simply on being the smallest, most agile model in the range, rather than the most basic or sparsely-equipped.

Underneath the stylish, restrained bodywork sits a raucous 4.3-litre, naturally aspirated V8 engine which is coupled to either a six-speed Graziano manual transmission, or a six-speed Sportshift automated manual transmission.

With its front-mid mounted engine, rear transaxle mounted gearbox and bonded aluminium structure, the V8 Vantage struck a near perfect 49/51 front/rear weight distribution, and could sprint from 0-60 in just 4.8 seconds.

Overview

First registered on 14 March 2006, this first-generation Aston Martin V8 Vantage coupé has evidently lived a cherished and easy-going life with its three recorded owners, as evidenced by both the impressive Aston Martin Lagonda service history (no independant specialist stamps here, oh no) and the overall condition of the car.

Importantly, not only is the mileage impressively low - as evidenced by MOT and service history records - but the car remains in completely factory condition throughout. Also, for those in the know, fuse 22 remains firmly in place!

You may be asking yourself why such a gorgeous example is being sold; Well, the answer is quite simple - it just doesn’t get used enough! As the vendor states “it’s a lovely thing to look at and admire - whilst sat in his carpeted garage, no less - but it simply doesn’t get the use it deserves.” Having proven to be fantastically reliable and dependable with a couple of long journeys under its belt - including a trip to deepest Cornwall - this stunning Vantage could now be yours.

Exterior

You’ve probably already built up a picture of this V8 Vantage’s condition in your mind based solely off the mileage and age. Well, you’re probably pretty spot-on, actually.

The bodywork and paint on this example are absolutely outstanding. There are a few minor marks here-and-there, but these are extremely small (we’re talking stone chips) and some build-up around the edge of the PPF sheets on the front end and rear arches which show their outlines, but that’s about it.

All four wheels are immaculate and shod in matching Bridgestone Potenza rubber, which we love seeing here at The Market - matching tyres are often an excellent indication of a careful owner, and judging by the rest of the car, that is certainly the case here.

Elsewhere, all of the light lenses are in good shape, and there are no scuffs or noticeable dents to speak of that we could notice during our thorough inspection and photo shoot.

Interior

As with the bodywork, the interior of this V8 Vantage is stunning throughout, showing only the lightest signs of wear and usage, in keeping with the car’s mileage.

The seats, for example, show only minor creasing and wear, with minimal scuffing to the outer bolsters. The carpets are immaculate throughout, as are both the dashboard and the headlining, with the latter remaining taut throughout and with no noted staining.

The centre console is also in excellent condition, with only the gearstick and shifter boot showing some light wear-and-tear. Given the condition of the rest of the cabin, we’d likely replace this, as this was the only perceivably ‘worn’ item we noted throughout the entire interior.

As far as we could tell, all systems are working perfectly, and there were no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard during our drive.

Mechanical

When we say the engine bay of this Vantage is virtually showroom-fresh, we really do mean it. Our photographer was completely taken aback by the condition, and it’s not hard to see why!

The block, ancillaries and engine bay as a whole are nigh-on immaculate, with the hoses appearing to be practically fresh out of the box. Naturally, there were no signs of any leaks or staining that we noted, nor could we see any issues from underneath the engine.

The chassis also looks to be in excellent condition with only a few areas of slight ‘bloom’ on exposed fixtures and items such as the exhaust, but even this is minimal for a car of this age. The most recent MOT did note a light misting of oil on the offside front shock absorber, but we didn’t notice any performance impact stemming from this during our short drive.

Out on the road, the naturally aspirated V8 engine positively sings, the six-speed gearbox is wonderfully tight and direct, and the clutch action is reassuringly positive. At a sedate pace, this is an excellent and refined GT car, but step on the ‘loud pedal’ and the sonorous V8 engine kicks into life with a healthy gusto, turning plenty of heads in the process.

On our test drive, we couldn’t notice any untoward noises, creaks or behaviours, with the car happy to sit and idle for extended periods of time, deal with repeated starts when hot and cold, and sit in nose-to-tail traffic for lengthy periods without any issues.

History

Included with this ‘modern classic’ GT car is the OE service book and owners manual, showing an impressively regular service regime, with the most recent taking place in August 2019 at 18,772 miles. Of particular note is that every single stamp in the book is from an OE Aston Martin dealership - an excellent sign of a caring and fastidious ownership history.

In addition to the service in 2019, there are further stamps from May 2018 and in June 2016, with more stamps then stretching back to the initial PDI. Extensive health checks were also carried out at the last two services, with the resulting paperwork from these being present in the history folder.

Alongside the manual and invoices - largely from AML - there is also a navigation DVD, and several MOT history certificates.

Summary

Offered in absolutely astounding condition throughout and in apparent rude mechanical health, this 2006 Aston Martin Vantage V8 retains the ability to turn heads, yet also act as an impressive under-the-radar GT or long-distance car when being driven sedately.

Given its extensive AML history, fantastic condition and low mileage, we expect this to be a popular auction and estimate a final hammer price in the region of £35,000 - £40,000.
