Background

The Aston Martin Vanquish first appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2001. Designed by the legendary Ian Callum, it was developed from the Project Vanquish concept car of 1998.

The world’s motoring press were suitably wowed, praising its stunning looks and lauding its modernity. It would doubtless receive the same reaction if it were to first appear today. Elegantly timeless…

The design is so very modern, with a bonded carbon fibre, composite and aluminium chassis all clothed in hand-formed aluminium body panels. The result is a car that is as stiff as it is strong and much lighter than if it had been crafted using more traditional methods.

Available as either a two-seater or a 2 + 2, under that sculptured bonnet sits a naturally aspirated V12 engine, paired with a six-speed electrohydraulic semi-automatic gearbox. There’s power aplenty, not surprising when the motor produces a heady 460bhp.

Headline figures suggest the Vanquish will sprint from rest to 60mph in less than five seconds and should you be so inclined, will continue to pull to somewhere north of 190mph.

Bond aficionados will recall the Vanquish’s starring role in Die Another Day and film buffs voted it the third best film car of all time behind the Minis used in The Italian Job and the legendary Aston Martin DB5. The latter of course starred in Goldfinger and Thunderball.

So, if you fancy indulging your inner Bond, we are delighted to be offering for sale a rare, low mileage Vanquish.

Overview

The car we are selling comes with the desirable Sports Dynamic Pack (SDP). The CEO of Aston Martin said at the time:

"A slightly more sporting, more focused approach to the current car but incorporating all of the elements that have made the V12 Vanquish the ultimate in Aston Martin motoring. The Sports Dynamic Pack will appeal to a very high proportion of customers and has been priced to encourage maximum take up.”

Principal changes over the standard car were to the chassis/suspension and the brakes. The front upright and wheel assembly were made stronger and stiffer with shorter springs (reducing the ride height by 5mm) and revised dampers.

Also, the steering was made more highly geared and was therefore 20% quicker than previously. The front brake discs were increased to 378mm in diameter and six pot callipers replaced the four pot items.

The easiest way to identify the SDP equipped car is by the lightweight slim 9-spoke wheels and the brake discs with an elliptical groove pattern.

The SDP V12 Vanquish was only available for a few months before being replaced by the V12 Vanquish S. It is said that just 94 examples were made, so a rare beast then!

This prime example of the Vanquish has covered less than 10,000 miles in its nineteen-year life, and we imagine has been safely tucked away when not in use.

Our trade seller bought the car from a local owner who had enjoyed the car for some eighteen months or so. Lack of use meant he chose to part with this stunning car.

Exterior

Smart, understated, traditional… the Meteorite Silver of the Vanquish suits the car just perfectly.

We suspect the paintwork may well be all original, such is its excellent condition. We are struggling to find any imperfections. The eagle-eyed will have noticed that the car sports no front number plate and the mounting brackets are missing. It should not be difficult to reinstate them.

The 9-spoke alloy wheels look oh so smart and seem to have stood the test of time rather well. The tyres all have plenty of tread, though the last MoT advised that the rubber is cracked and perishing. It is likely that they are the original items. We would budget for a new set.

Interior

The Obsidian Black leather covering much of the interior is of course of the highest quality. Almost every surface is clad and the smell when you open the door quite divine.

In keeping with the car’s low mileage and gentle use, the front seats are virtually unmarked. They are superbly comfortable and supportive, the electric adjustment ensuring a perfect driving position. There are back seats, ideal for children or for extra luggage space.

Carpets tone in nicely and over mats have ensured that they have stayed in great condition.

If the sound of the V12 engine is not enough to excite, there is a high-quality audio system fitted.

Sometimes it’s the small details that excite and the Vanquish’s interior boasts plenty. Whether it’s the prominent engine start button, the aluminium pedals or the bespoke instrumentation, there’s a lot to take in and enjoy, before any drive even commences. And what a thrill that drive will be…

The boot is a decent size, making this Aston an ideal holiday companion. A car in which a long continental road trip would surely be a joy.

Mechanical

Under the bonnet, the engine bay is presented in nice order, the V12 engine undoubtedly being the star of the show. It’s an impressive sight.

We are told the car runs and drives as one would expect and offers thrills aplenty even on the most mundane of journeys. The slick semi-automatic gearbox ensures that town driving is no chore, but get the Vanquish on a derestricted autobahn, and then there’s the 190mph top speed to explore.

History

The service book is present and correct and tells us that the car was supplied by HMW Aston Martin in Walton-on-Thames in July 2004. There are plenty of stamps, though due to the low mileage, servicing has not always been carried out on an annual basis.

Latterly however, we can report that HMW did indeed service the Aston in 2018, 2019 and 2021, with Aston Martin Wilmslow carrying out the routine maintenance in June of last year, the mileage then being 8,600.

In addition, they replaced both track rod ends and carried out a wheel alignment. The invoice total was £1,956.31.

An MoT was carried out last month at 9,560 miles and the only advisories were for the cracked/perished tyres.

A check of the car’s MoT history with the DVLA confirms the car’s ultra-low mileage and gives no cause for concern.

The car comes with two sets of keys and remotes.

Summary

This ultra-low mileage Aston Martin Vanquish is a rare find indeed, especially with the Sports Dynamic Pack.

Presented in a classy colour combination and well maintained in recent years, this British-built performance cruiser looks set fair to delight its next lucky owner.

Cars of this ilk are fast disappearing as we rush towards electrification so a V12 bruiser such as this is surely a car to buy and keep forever? Just owning such a car will excite, but once behind the wheel that’s where the fun really starts. We are confident to offer the car with an estimate of £70,000-£75,000.
