Background

Launched in 2003 as successor to the DB7, the DB9 was the first model to be built at Aston Martin's new factory at Gaydon, Warwickshire.

Like its DB7 predecessor, the DB9 was styled by Ian Callum.

The DB9 was powered by a development of the 5.9-litre, 48-valve, V12 engine found in the DB7 Vantage, which produced 470bhp, an output sufficient to propel the aerodynamic coupé from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 305km/h.

The aluminium engine was mounted as far back as possible in the chassis while the transmission/final drive was positioned ahead of the rear axle, resulting in 85% of the car's mass being sited between the axles and a perfect 50/50 front/rear weight distribution.

Based on the DB9, the DBS V12 Coupé was built between 2008 and 2012.

The car effectively replaced the 2004 Vanquish S as the marque’s flagship model.

The 2010 Carbon Black Edition DBS was limited to just one per Aston Martin dealer, making it one of the rarest iterations of the already rare DBS.

Thanks to the inclusion of various carbon-fibre inserts, panels and other bits and pieces, the 510bhp Carbon Black Edition was 17kg lighter than its ‘ordinary’ counterpart.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 2010 LHD auto (6-speed Touchtronic 2) Aston Martin DBS Carbon Black Edition comes with no history or service records beyond whatever is shown in the documents section.

It does, however, come with its original specification sheets.

It has just 142 kms on its odometer.

It was bought new for the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2011.

The car doesn’t start or run at present (but it does take power to the dashboard and the engine turns), so our appraisal of it is based on its cosmetic appearance.

The exterior is ‘AML Carbon Black Metallic’ (the paint was applied by hand and it took 50 hours to complete), the interior is ‘Sahara Tan’ (carpets and upholstery), the headlining is ‘Ivory’, and the fascia is ‘Piano Black’.

This DBS, which has barely been warmed up and has yet to get through its first tank of fuel, is effectively a brand-new car, in brand-new condition.

It just happens to be 13 years old.

The car comes with two keys, including the all-important ‘crystal’.

Exterior

The bodywork is free of any dinks, dents or creases that we can see.

The diamond-turned wheels are in very good condition, as are the badging (including some bespoke dealership badging at the rear), chrome and all exterior fixtures and fittings.

The paintwork is blacker and glossier and shinier and deeper than our photographs could hope to convey.

Aside from a couple of scratches on the bonnet, we’ve found no blemishes or marks worth mentioning.

Interior

It’s a similar story of excellence and time-warp preservation on the inside.

Everything is good.

Everything looks untroubled by time or use.

Nothing that we’ve seen looks like it needs anything more than a quick clean.

The leather upholstery is uncreased and pretty much immaculate.

So, too, are the carpets, door cards, headlining, mats, fascia, controls and various bits of carbon-fibre trim.

The boot is equally good.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity, as you’d expect.

History

This car comes with no history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

Who would like a showroom-fresh Aston Martin DBS Coupé Carbon Black Edition with delivery kilometres for around the price of a 13-year-old example?

Perhaps a better question is…who wouldn’t? Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as splendid as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €40,000 - €60,000.
