Mark's review

Mark Livesey - Consignment Specialist Message Mark

“ This is the very first Aston Martin DBS Coupé UB-2010 ever made and was built for, and inspected and approved by, Dr. Ulrich Bez himself. ”

This exceptional car just needs a couple of cosmetic issues addressing before it’s ready to take to the roads and turn heads wherever it goes - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

Background

Launched in 2003 as successor to the DB7, the DB9 was the first model to be built at Aston Martin's new factory at Gaydon, Warwickshire.

Like its DB7 predecessor, the DB9 was styled by Ian Callum.

The DB9 was powered by a development of the 5.9-litre, 48-valve, V12 engine found in the DB7 Vantage, which produced 470bhp, an output sufficient to propel the aerodynamic coupé from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 305km/h.

The aluminium engine was mounted as far back as possible in the chassis while the transmission/final drive was positioned ahead of the rear axle, resulting in 85% of the car's mass being sited between the axles and a perfect 50/50 front/rear weight distribution.

Based on the DB9, the DBS V12 Coupé was built between 2008 and 2012.

The car effectively replaced the 2004 Vanquish S as the marque’s flagship model.

Aston Martin commemorated Dr. Ulrich Bez’s decade as Chief Executive by unveiling the DBS UB-2010 edition at the 2010 Geneva Salon. This exclusive special edition was limited to an intended run of just 40 examples, 20 Coupés and 20 Volantes.

The DBS UB-2010 was specified by Dr. Bez and featured a unique ‘Azurite Black’ paint finish (which is actually dark blue), metallic bronze leather upholstery with woven leather seat inserts, a ‘Cryptic Titan’ facia finish, blue brake callipers and ‘Bitter Chocolate’ carpets.

This car is No.1 of the 20 Coupés.

The engine bay plaque states that the final inspection of the car was personally conducted by Ulrich Bez.

This, then, is a very special car with unique provenance.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

This car - VIN: SCFFDCBD1BGE02401- is the very first Aston Martin DBS Coupé UB-2010 ever made and was built for, and inspected and approved by, Dr. Ulrich Bez himself.

It is, we think, one of only 33 Coupé and Volante variants ever actually completed.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 2011 LHD auto Aston Martin DBS Coupé UB-2010 comes with no history or service records beyond whatever specification sheets and photocopies are shown in the documents section.

The car starts and runs but hasn’t been driven more than a few metres by us.

The odometer reads 265 kms.

The car was bought new by the vendor in 2011, stored in Switzerland, and moved to his collection of static display vehicles in 2014.

It comes with one key and the original owners’ manual with an initial inspection stamp from Aston Martin Works Service at Newport Pagnell.

Aside from one or two cosmetic issues, the car is in exceptional condition and is undeniably beautiful, eye-catching and, of course, ultra-rare.

Exterior

The bodywork is everything you would want and expect in a car that’s covered just 265 kms and been in a private collection for most of its life.

The car is free of any dents, dinks, creases or other blemishes of consequence or note.

The panels, panel gaps and shut lines are crisp, consistent and even.

The dark blue metallic paint really dazzles and comes to life in the sunlight.

The wheels, badging, lights, lenses, carbon-fibre inserts and exterior trim are all in pretty much exemplary condition.

There are one or two scuffs and scratches around the rear number plate, a couple of scratches on the rear, passenger-side wing and a couple of small scuffs on top of the sills.

Interior

The interior is really very impressive and is among the classiest we’ve seen in any Aston Martin or, indeed, any luxury performance car.

The bronze leather upholstery has blue/grey woven leather inserts on the seat squabs and back-rests.

It’s distinctive, luxurious, functional, comfortable and supportive.

And it’s all in pristine condition, front and back, save for a couple of very small scuffs on a bolster on the driver’s seat.

The door cards are equally good, as are the carpets, mats, headlining and instruments.

The speaker covers and the housing for the rear-view mirror have developed something like the ‘sticky plastic syndrome’ found in Modena products of a certain age.

Either that or perhaps some protective film has left a sticky residue which could simply be cleaned off.

We don’t know.

The Ulrich Bez-signature kick-plate plaques have been removed for some reason, leaving just the LED backlight strips in place.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t driven the car more than a few metres.

Mechanical

The tidy, dry engine and engine bay look showroom fresh and everything appears to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the car appear to be entirely untroubled either by time or use.

History

Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no paperwork beyond whatever photocopied records are shown in the gallery.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

Summary

The DBS UB-2010 variant is a very rare car, whether in Volante or Coupé form.

But this is the very first Coupé.

And that makes it unique.

This exceptional car just needs a couple of cosmetic issues addressing before it’s ready to take to the roads and turn heads wherever it goes - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.
