Background

The Aston Martin DB9 was first launched in 2004, following its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show the previous year. A replacement for the much-lauded DB7, the DB9 was offered as a coupé and a convertible, the latter known as the Volante.

The DB9 is an interesting car for several reasons, not least the fact that its bodyshell is a bonded-and-riveted aluminium and composite structure. This makes the car twice as rigid as the DB7 while simultaneously being up to 25% lighter. (It also, of course, all but rules out the possibility of structural corrosion, something that was the bane of many a classic Aston…)

The 5.9-litre V12 engine delivers 450bhp and 420lb/ft of torque, significant figures that deliver both staggering performance and an intoxicating noise.

Available as both a manual and a six-speed ZF ‘Touchtronic’ automatic, the later DB9s have an unrestricted top speed of 186mph after passing 62mph in well under five seconds.

Overview

This stunning 2005 Aston Martin DB9 has been with the vendor from new and has only covered an incredibly low 14,690 miles. Costing over £112,000 when new, the DB9 was specced by the vendor and used for just under three years before it went into storage whilst the vendor was overseas. The car stayed in storage until late 2020, early 2021, when it was given a full recommissioning, costing in excess of £6,000 to ensure everything was working correctly.

Since the recommissioning, the car has been used a handful of times but is now being offered for sale as the vendor is selling the property and will be moving back overseas.

Exterior

Finished in Meteorite Silver, the paintwork on the DB9 is in very good and original condition. A few blisters have appeared over the years in storage, most noticeable on the passenger rear wheel’s arch, but this hasn't broken through the paint. There are also a couple at the top of the driver's quarter where it meets the roof (quite a common place to see these on a DB9), and an odd couple of others, but nothing really jumps out. The vendor was contemplating getting these done, but felt it would be better to offer the car in its original condition.

From the front, the headlights are in excellent condition, with no discolouration to the lenses. One of the options fitted was a bright grille finish, which brightens up the front end nicely. The bonnet aligns as it should, and as mentioned, this is one place there is a small blister caused by a stone chip. Another option fitted was the heated front windscreen, which is free from any chips or cracks.

From the side profile, the DB9 is a stunning car to look at, and even though the design is 19 years old, it can still hold its own today. The door gaps are millimetre perfect, as Aston intended. There is some light blistering by the driver's rear light, but both sides are free from dings or dents. The windows are in excellent condition, as are the seals and trims. There are also optional power-fold mirrors fitted, and some corrosion is present on the base of the driver's side mirror.

At the rear, the lights are both excellent with no damage. Optional rear parking sensors are fitted, and the twin exhausts provide the intoxicating soundtrack of the wonderful 6.0 litre V12.

Fitted with ten-spoke alloy wheels, these are in excellent order with no signs of corrosion or damage. They have recently been equipped with a new set of Bridgestone tyres during the recommissioning.

Interior

Inside the DB9 is a fantastic place to be. Full black leather, with optional white stitching, electric, heated sports seats hold you tightly and are in excellent condition, with no real signs of wear. The rear seat is perfect; the vendor reports nobody has ever sat in it. The door cards are also in excellent condition and have been capped with a Mahogany trim.

The dashboard also has the Mahogany fascia to match and is in excellent condition. The instruments are working correctly, with no warning lights displayed when the car runs and the odometer shows a reading of 14,690 miles. More options include the integral phone system, in which you have to insert a sim card. There is also satellite navigation and discs, which are outdated now. Cruise control is fitted, perfect for those long motorway journeys. The switchgear and buttons are all in excellent order, and with just 14,690 miles, there are no signs of any wear.

The carpets are pretty much like new, and a set of mats is fitted to help keep them this way. Inside the boot is also clean and tidy and the original warning triangle and compressor are in place.

Mechanical

At the heart of the DB9 is the fantastic 6.0 litre V12, which produces 450Bhp and 420lb-ft of torque. This, coupled with the six-speed automatic ZF Touchtronic gearbox, can propel the DB9 from 0-62mph in sub-five seconds.

Inside the engine bay is well presented with a nice clean V12, and everything looks in good order with no signs of any leaks.

The DB9 starts up nicely without hesitation and comes to a smooth idle. Out on the road, the car is reported to pull strongly through the gears, which can be changed via the paddle shifters, or sit back and relax whilst the auto gearbox does all of the work.

Looking at the underside of the vehicle, this is very clean, as you can imagine from the low mileage.

History

The cherished registration number 49 AM will be removed from the vehicle before the sale ends, but it is available via separate negotiation and would be a lovely touch to your new Aston Martin.

The all-important service book is present; as you can imagine, after so long in storage, there have not been many services. The most recent, as mentioned, was the recommissioning which included all of the fluids, filters replaced, new battery, and new tyres.

The current MoT is valid until the 23rd December 2023. There are three keys included, the owner’s manual/service book plus the original bill of sale and some invoices for the recommissioning and service.

Summary

With just 14,690 miles covered in this 2005 Aston Martin DB9, this is certainly a very serious contender for anyone looking to take ownership of a handbuilt British modern classic.

With a 6.0 litre V12, performance is excellent, and the looks are beautiful. What more could you ask for from a fully recommissioned low-mileage DB9?

We think this superb 2005 Aston Martin DB9 with fetch in the region of £30,000 - £35,000.
