Winner - are you with me?

Background

Designed by Ian Callum, the beautiful Aston Martin DB7 was available as a coupé or convertible, and with a manual or an automatic gearbox.

In 1993, the new chairman of Ford Europe presented the finished car (which had yet to be named) to the general public at the Geneva Motor Show.

The reception from the press and buying public was overwhelmingly positive and the car was subsequently put into production as the DB7.

Built in the same factory as the Jaguar XJ220, the DB7 was the only ‘modern’ Aston Martin to utilise a steel monocoque body and numerous composite-material panels in its construction.

The chosen engine was a 3.2-litre version of the twin-cam, six-cylinder 24-valve AJ-6 unit that had replaced the venerable XK in Jaguar's saloon range. This was endowed with a suitable power output courtesy of a water-cooled Eaton supercharger.

The result was 335bhp and a top speed of 258km/h, a performance that put the DB7 on a par with rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz 500 SL and Porsche 928.

The range was later expanded to include the six-litre V12 Vantage.

VIN: SCFAA2115WK101831.

Engine No: AM1/04-01662.

Odometer: 9,593 kms.

Built to Gulf States specification, this automatic transmission DB7 coupé was purchased from Premier International Motors Group (Aston Martin Middle East) for the previous vendor’s collection in 2007.

While the car does start and run, it has been on static display for some time and will require recommissioning prior to road use.

Exterior

Looking at this car it’s hard to believe that it is 24 years old.

The bodywork is free of any dents, bumps or creases worth mentioning and the green paintwork is shiny and lustrous pretty much everywhere you look.

There are just a few stone chips in the usual places around the front of the bonnet and the valance, and a few swirly scratches on the boot lid.

The alloy wheels seem to be in good all-round condition.

The panel gaps and shut lines are consistent and even.

The chrome work is very good, as are the badging and trim.

The headlight cowlings are a little cloudy.

Interior

It’s a very similar story inside the car, where the interior is broadly in excellent condition and the green carpets and trim are the perfect complement to the cream leather upholstery with green piping.

The front seats are supportive, comfortable and undamaged. They show very few signs of creasing or wear but would thank the next owner for a clean, as would the rear seats, which look virtually unused.

The door cards are in excellent condition. So, too, the headlining, carpets and mats.

The wood and veneers on the dashboard, centre console and door inserts are glossy and rich.

The steering wheel, gear selector and instrument cluster are first-class.

We can’t vouch for the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t driven the car more than a few metres.

The boot is in decent order but is rather dusty and needs a good clean.

Mechanical

As far as we can tell, the undersides of the car have a good deal of structural integrity and reflect the fact that this car has covered fewer than 10,000 kms.

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and appears to be clean and dry.

History

Apart from its original Aston Martin Owner’s Guide, the car doesn’t come with any history, service records or other documentation.

To be clear: it has no registration documents with this car whatsoever.

Summary

This car has a very low number of kilometres on the odometer and is in an overall condition that truly defies its age.

One or two very minor cosmetic issues aside, this could well be an affordable and highly rewarding route to ownership of a great modern classic from one of the world’s most prestigious sporting marques.

We confidently offer this very special car for auction with an estimate of between €10,000 - €15,000.
