Background

The DB7 production ran from 1994 to 2004 and with more than 7000 built before the BD9 came along it was the largest production run Aston had done. Based on a prototype from Jaguar, the new ‘Ford’ owners shut it down after discovering it was going to be heavier than the previous XJS.

Tom Walkinshaw of Tom Walkinshaw Racing saw potential in the car however and took it to Aston’s CEO at the time Walter Hayes. Strapped for cash but awash with designing talent in the form of Ian Callum the Aston took shape.

1993 rolled around and after convincing the Ford Europe chairman to unveil the car to the press it was rolled out at the Geneva Motor Show. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive and the as yet unnamed car was put into production as the DB7.

Overview

The current owner had a DB7 a few years ago and loved every second of ownership before having to sell so when a friend of a friend let them know about this example for sale, they were tempted and went to view the car. Once in front of the Aston, they were smitten with the car reminiscing of previous ownership, the car had been part of a larger collection of classics and stored for around 2 and a half years.

Once secured, the current owner had the car checked with an Aston Martin dealer and with some issues identified and rectified and a lighter wallet the car was given a clean bill of health. The current owner then used the car sparingly on summer weekends and in the 2 years they have owned the car it has only done approximately 3000 – 4000 miles.

Now personal circumstances see the Aston up for auction reluctantly, the owner reports that the new keeper should be very pleased with the car as it is a desirable colour combo and has a good history record with significant recent expenditure.

Exterior

The exterior of the car is very presentable and shows very few marks around the body. There is a small section of corrosion starting to come through on the rear driver’s side arch as shown in the gallery and one or two very minor scuffs as to be expected. These really don’t detract from the overall condition of the car however and hopefully can be repaired easily and quickly.

The body colour suits the design of the car perfectly we think, the lighter shade highlights the body lines nicely and the chrome trim additions only serve to add to the appeal. With the hood up which is a matching colour to the dark tone of the interior trim, the silver is broken up nicely.

Light lenses, glass and trim all round are in good condition and the wheels look to be relatively free from curbing or excessive marks, all shod in good condition tyres which look to have plenty of tread left.

Interior

Inside the cabin, you’ll be greeted with the two-tone leather upholstery matched with the stunning wood accents. The condition throughout the interior is very good, but with the car only having just over 50,000 miles, it’s no surprise that it should be fresh and well kept.

There is the slightest wear on the driver’s upright exterior bolster and some general wear and tear around the rest of the interior if we’re being picky but it’s much less than expected for a car this age/mileage.

The carpets, dash and headlining all look to be in good order too with the owner reporting that this trim option is a popular one with anyone who has seen the car. The owner also reports all electrics to be working inside the cabin as well as around the exterior of the car.

Mechanical

That huge V12 engine is a 5.9 litre, 420 horsepower, 400 ft lb lump mated to a 5-speed automatic, propelling the car from standstill to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

The unit in this example is reportedly working nicely and with only a little over 50,000 miles on the clock it’s not been subjected to much use over the 23 years it’s been on the road.

With the unit being so large and Aston being a luxury brand there is not much in terms of ‘working parts’ to be seen past the plastic covers in the engine bay but we can’t see any evidence of fluid leaks or anything that might cause concern to mention here in the description. We’d highly recommend you take a look through the excellent photos here to take a look for yourself.

The underside of the car is in good condition too again most likely to its low mileage and previous prolonged storage saving it from our salted roads here in the UK. There is a little surface rust starting to show here and there but it looks to be cosmetic at worst, again the photo gallery shows all.

History

The Aston comes with a stack of old MOTs in paper form as well as paperwork from Heritage Aston for miscellaneous works completed from 2010 and 2013. There is then paperwork from Grange Aston Martin in London from 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Also present is a service invoice from 2007 and a fuel pump part receipt from 2021 as well as the current V5 showing 4 previous keepers.

Summary

Who doesn’t love a DB7, even if they’re not your favourite Aston you can’t help but admit they represent everything Aston and British determination and pluck stand for. This example is in fine condition needing very little to get it shining like the diamond it is again.
