Background
The DB7 production ran from 1994 to 2004 and with more than 7000 built before the BD9 came along it was the largest production run Aston had done. Based on a prototype from Jaguar, the new ‘Ford’ owners shut it down after discovering it was going to be heavier than the previous XJS.
Tom Walkinshaw of Tom Walkinshaw Racing saw potential in the car however and took it to Aston’s CEO at the time Walter Hayes. Strapped for cash but awash with designing talent in the form of Ian Callum the Aston took shape.
1993 rolled around and after convincing the Ford Europe chairman to unveil the car to the press it was rolled out at the Geneva Motor Show. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive and the as yet unnamed car was put into production as the DB7.
