Background

Designed by Ian Callum, the beautiful Aston Martin DB7 was available as a coupé or convertible, and with a manual or an automatic gearbox.

In 1993, the new chairman of Ford Europe presented the finished car (which had yet to be named) to the general public at the Geneva Motor Show.

The reception from the press and buying public was overwhelmingly positive and the car was subsequently put into production as the DB7.

Built in the same factory as the Jaguar XJ220, the DB7 is the only ‘modern’ Aston Martin to utilise a steel monocoque body.

Initially offered with a straight-six engine, the range was later expanded to include the glorious six-litre V12 engine in the Vantage Volante that you are looking at here.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to start or drive this car and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2002 Aston Martin Vantage Volante is a very good example of the model.

It is in very impressive overall condition and, a few cosmetic issues aside, this could well be an affordable route to ownership of a top-of-the-range model from one of the world’s great marques.

It entered the vendor’s collection of static display cars in 2013.

Exterior

The bright blue paintwork is in impressive condition, with just a few stone chips in the usual places around the front of the bonnet and the valance, and some light scratches elsewhere.

The panels are free of any significant dents, bumps or creases.

The alloy wheels seem to be good all-round condition.

The panel gaps and shut lines are consistent and even.

Most of the chrome work is very good, as are the lights, lenses, badging and trim.

It looks very fine indeed in its current condition.

We imagine it would look even better if given a professional machine polish.

Interior

It’s much the same story inside the car, where the interior is broadly in excellent condition.

The upholstery is undamaged and shows very few signs of creasing or wear but, being white, it has picked up the odd mark and scuff here and there and would benefit from being thoroughly cleaned.

The same is true of the door cards, which are in otherwise excellent condition.

The front seats are supportive and comfortable. The rear seats look as if they’ve rarely been sat on.

The carpets and mats are good.

The wood veneers on the dashboard, centre console and door inserts are glossy and rich.

The steering wheel, gear selector and instrument cluster are all in first-class condition.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t tried to start the vehicle.

The leather around the dashboard next to the airbag on the passenger side is a little scuffed and out of shape along the edge.

The lining of the boot has come away and is currently sharing the boot space with a spare wheel, tool kit and various bits of cladding and carpet.

Lifting up the carpets in the boot or elsewhere reveals nothing more than some superficial rust dust.

Mechanical

The undersides of the car seem to us to have a good deal of structural integrity.

There is no corrosion of significance that we’ve seen anywhere.

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and appears to be clean and dry.

History

The car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

This car must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

Any paperwork shown in the gallery is a facsimile and in no way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

Apart from an exterior polish and an interior clean, we think this extremely handsome DB7 Vantage Volante should need very little doing to it other than basic recommissioning.

Provided, of course, that the engine and mechanicals are as good as the rest of the vehicle.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €15,000 - €25,000.
