Background

The Aston Martin DB7 is a grand tourer that was built by Aston Martin from 1994 to 2004. The car could be either coupe or convertible and could have either a six- or twelve-cylinder engine. The car initially was only sold with a straight-six as the DB7, but in 1999 the V12 was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show. The V12 Vantage was so popular that Aston Martin ceased production of the straight-six DB7 before the year was over.

Overview

This DB7 is a V12 Vantage. This V12 Vantage makes roughly 420hp, has a ZF 5HP30 automatic transmission, and weighs just shy of two tons. Visual differences when compared to straight-six DB7 include different side mirrors, large fog lights under the regular headlights, and ‘DB7 Vantage’ badging at the rear.

Exterior

This DB7 Volante is finished in a drop-dead gorgeous metallic green. The paint appears to be smoothly applied around the entire vehicle and the only obvious damage to the paint is located beneath the grille on the front bumper. This is a common place for scraping on these cars so it isn’t particularly surprising, but this Aston has minimal damage there regardless. The 10-spoke turbine wheels give the car a fantastic aggressive look, and also show no curb rash. Glass around the car is clean and shows no chips or cracks, and the green convertible top fits snugly in place. Although it fits well, the passenger side of the roof does appear to have a tear over the rear wheel. Overall, this DB7’s exterior has been excellently preserved over the years.

Interior

The interior’s quality matches the exterior at first glance. Draped with forest green and deep tan leather, the inside of this DB7 looks like a plush place to pass the time. Multi-colored leather seats show very little creasing and no obvious major damage. The green dash pad and the rest of the dahs board are clean, and all of the gauges mounted within are easily readable. Up top, both sunshades hang tightly in place but the underside of the canvas roof seems to be slightly loose. Down low, green Aston Martin floor mats look well used protecting the green carpet beneath, a hefty detailing would probably return them to excellent condition as they show no threading or tearing. The interior is equally as clean as the exterior and the color combination is both highly unique and incredibly pleasing to the eye.

Mechanical

Lifting the hood reveals a host of massive covers. Its difficult to tell what’s going on, but from a glance nothing appears to be majorly damaged, and no components look particularly out of place. Under the body we see more of the same. The frame and floorboards look solid, the suspension components are all in order, and the exhaust has a reasonable amount of discoloration given the age and travels of the vehicle.

History

The most important thing to note about this DB7 is that Carfax has found an issue with the odometer and claims the car has exceeded its mechanical limit. Mileage on the Carfax was last reported at 35,644 but this is believed to be inaccurate and we at The Market by Bonhams do not know the actual mileage of the vehicle. The car has had 10 owners. The Carfax has found the car in the following places chronologically between 2000 and 2017: Coral Gables, New Hyde Park, Miami, Boca Raton, Easley, Fort Lauderdale, Bellevue, Seattle, Kirkland, Redmond, Renton, Tucson, and Arizona City. Based on the documents available to us, the seller took ownership of this vehicle in July 2020.

Summary

The DB7 is a handsome car from a particularly difficult time in Aston Martin’s history. Ford’s ownership over the brand during this time was overall a huge mistake, but Aston Martin’s unwavering commitment to building fine automobiles led to the birth of this fine machine. The V12 in this Aston is a blast to drive, and it makes this car an absolute steal. The unknown mileage does linger over this car’s head like a dark storm cloud, but if you can put that bit aside, this is a clean Aston Martin in an absolutely delightful combination. Finding another DB7 specced as beautifully as this one will surely be no easy task. Striking looks and minimal damage leave us feeling confident that this DB7 will have few issues hitting its $15,000 - $25,000 estimate.
