£39,500

Background

The Aston Martin DB7 first appeared in 1994 and garnered much praise for its stunning looks. This should come as no surprise as the designer was none other than Ian Callum. Was it the car that saved Aston? Quite probably and it began a new design language which we can still see reflected in today’s offerings.

As a final swansong for the DB7, Aston introduced the DB7 GT and GTA derivatives, refining the concept and adding some bespoke features.

GTA’s were powered by a 420bhp V12 engine and this was mated with an automatic gearbox, with sequential ‘Touchtronic’ mode for when the driver wanted to exact ultimate control.

Other specification upgrades include modified suspension and braking for a more dynamic drive, whilst visually there was a boot lid spoiler, mesh grille and unique 18-inch alloy wheels. Step inside and there are Recaro sports seats, sill plaques and instruments finished in parchment with black numerals.

Just 112 GTAs were built, with 60 sold in the UK.

Overview

Wow! This car drives as superbly as it looks.  It's a testament to careful ownership and considerable expenditure. The engine is smooth, powerful and refined, with a fantastic turn of speed when you are in the mood.

The vendor bought it as an investment to cherish and clearly hasn't put too much mileage on it, preferring to do that in his Ferrari instead. In fact he seems to mostly have been spending his money at the Aston dealership, which is very good news for you!

In the boot there is a lovely fitted Aston Martin soft car cover, neatly in its own bag, plus all the tools complete and spare tyre you'd expect.  There's also a battery charger/conditioner for when it's sitting in your garage for any length of time. The private plate is also included in the auction.

Exterior

Tungsten silver, a classic colour and one which shows off the graceful lines to good effect. Being a perfectionist, the seller chose to deal with any imperfections. Inspect the invoices from 2019 and you will see that the rear screen was removed to deal with the smallest area of surface rust. At the same time the bottom of the nearside door was attended to, as well a scratch on the rear wheel arch.

Rewind further to 2017 and there was a cosmetic repair to the lower front bumper and a small amount of corrosion to the offside door panel.

All the work was carried out by Aston Martin main dealer, the Stratton Motor Company.

There is also a recent invoice for flat polishing the headlights. What we can deduce from this work is that the car is being sold by a fastidious owner, keen to keep up appearances at all (considerable) cost.

If we are being extremely picky, there is a small chip on the passenger door mirror.

The alloy wheels are in tip top order with new Bridgestone tyres fitted to the front wheels in 2016, whilst at the rear Pirelli provide the rubber.

Interior

The heated electrically adjustable seats are clad in a mixture of black leather and alcantara. They are lightly patinated as befits the car’s modest miles and they offer superb comfort. The wood trim is quite striking but presents well and splashes of silver give the car a somewhat timeless elegance.

A Parrot handsfree kit is fitted, allowing a little modern connectivity but this is easily removed if you wish to return to a simpler time when driving allowed you to escape the pressures of modern living. We would!

A quality Becker CD multiplayer lurks in the boot, so time to dig out those George Michael CDs, kick back and relax.

Carpets and mats are in good order and sitting above are the lovely alloy pedals, though these could do with a good clean and polish.

Yes, there are back seats, though we doubt anyone has ever sat in them. They are useful for additional storage space or perhaps small children.

The boot offers ample space for enough holiday luggage and is in excellent order, all set for the grand tour.

Mechanical

Under the vented bonnet, a feature that was continued on the Vanquish, the V12 is a wonderful sight to behold. It's quite immaculate and there are no signs of lack of care (never mind oil or grease!)

The seller is lucky enough to own a Ferrari too, so with time precious, one of his fabulous cars must go. We are not sure he made the right choice, but his loss is potentially your gain.

History

The GTA boasts a full and comprehensive Aston Martin Service History. Charles Hurst in Belfast carried out nine services and once back on the mainland, you can see the receipts from Strattons for all the latest (expensive) servicing. The service book is present and correct and boasts all the stamps to confirm.

The handbook and wallet are also with the car and there are two sets of keys.

The car has been recently MOT’d and a trawl of the recent history shows no advisories for many a year.

Other work carried out during the seller’s ownership includes replacing the front springs and rear trailing arms.

In 2016 the car was Waxoyled and this has clearly paid dividends as the pictures of the underside of the car clearly show.

A quick tot up of the invoices incurred by the seller during his ownership comes to the princely sum of £17,180. He tells us that that if it needed doing, he told Strattons to do the work without delay.

The officially Aston-stamped service book is testimony to an impeccably cared for and cherished car.

The receipts are shown in the picture section so you can see the detail of everything that has been done.

The last service was carried out this January so we cannot envisage the new owner having anything to do other than enjoy this very fine motor car in the manner for which it was intended. A classic car insurance policy and you are off.

Summary

This is a very rare car, low mileage and has all the signs of careful ownership from new. The car even comes with a quality Aston Martin monogrammed cover and battery trickle charger, which should help preserves its condition when not in use.

We estimate that the car will sell for between £44,000 and £54,000. Worth every penny surely? British engineering at its finest and one of the most iconic names on the motoring scene.

‘I drive an Aston’, has a lovely ring to it and the reality of life behind the wheel is just as exciting.
