Background

Designed by Ian Callum, the beautiful Aston Martin DB7 was available as a coupé or convertible, and with a manual or an automatic gearbox.

In 1993, the new chairman of Ford Europe presented the finished car (which had yet to be named) to the general public at the Geneva Motor Show.

The reception from the press and buying public was overwhelmingly positive and the car was subsequently put into production as the DB7.

Built in the same factory as the Jaguar XJ220, the DB7 was the only ‘modern’ Aston Martin to utilise a steel monocoque body and numerous composite-material panels in its construction.

The chosen engine was a 3.2-litre version of the twin-cam, six-cylinder 24-valve AJ-6 unit that had replaced the venerable XK in Jaguar's saloon range. This was endowed with a suitable power output courtesy of a water-cooled Eaton supercharger.

The result was 335bhp and a top speed of 258km/h, a performance that put the DB7 on a par with rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz 500 SL and Porsche 928.

The range was later expanded to include the DB7 Volante and the six-litre V12 Vantage.

The odometer reads just 3,727 kms.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to start or drive this car and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this LHD auto DB7 Volante is in very good overall condition.

We believe it entered the vendor’s collection in 2020.

The car starts and runs, but clearly needs a full service and recommission before being used properly.

Exterior

The silver paintwork is very good overall and the bodywork is free of any significant dents, bumps, folds or creases.

The wheels are in top condition, as are most of the exterior fixtures and fittings, although some of the plastic trim is a little faded in places.

There are some scuffs and marks around the ‘nose’ of the car below the bonnet.

There are a couple of scratches on the boot lid, a paint chip on the edge of the driver’s door and a small scratch at the front end of the sill beneath the driver’s side indicator.

The black fabric hood is in excellent condition, fits snugly and opens and closes as it should.

The windows on the driver’s side are not currently working.

Interior

The interior of the car is in equally impressive overall condition, although it does need a good clean.

The cream leather seats are very good and their condition is far more a reflection of the car’s low kilometres than its age.

The roof lining, although mostly fine, has a small hole towards the rear.

There is a small scratch on the veneer insert on the driver’s door – elsewhere, though, the veneers are undamaged and glossy.

A section of the dashboard trim under the passenger air bag is not flush with the rest of the panel.

The carpets are in good order, as are the mats, which are still in their protective plastic covers.

We can’t vouch for the functionality of instruments, dials, buttons, knobs, switches or levers because we haven’t started or driven the car.

The boot is fine and contains a space-saver spare wheel and an Alpine CD-changer.

The boot lid struts don’t keep the lid open.

Mechanical

Everything in the engine bay seems to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records beyond what is shown in the photography section.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

We think this is a good, very low kilometres example of both the marque and the model – and one that appears to have been well looked-after throughout its life.

If this car proves to be dynamically and functionally as strong as it is aesthetically, then it has the potential to be a very desirable Aston Martin DB7 Volante indeed.

We’re confident to offer this fine car for auction with an estimate of €15,000 - €25,000.
