Background

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017 and commercialized in 2018, this low, gritty and athletic two-seater coupe marked the return (under the aegis of the Renault group) of the Alpine brand more than two decades after the A610 (until then the last model of the French manufacturer to tread the automotive scenes). In its look and mechanical layout, the modern-day Alpine A110 traces very closely the "spirit" and proportions of the legendary classic berlinette, which remained famous for its numerous rally successes collected at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. The sporty soul of the vintage model, protagonist of a thousand battles in competition with other "holy monsters" such as the Lancia Fulvia HF and the Porsche 911, fully lives again in the current one, which combines rear-wheel drive with a four-cylinder 1.8 turbo gasoline engine (250 hp) taken from its "cousin" Renault Mégane RS. Recently, with the 300-hp S and R versions, the range has expanded upward, placing even more emphasis on the driving pleasure that this racing-scented coupe can deliver.

Overview

This Alpine A110, identified by chassis number VFAAEFD0758211528 and finished in a blue that recalls the typical Blue de France livery of past models, is number 1487 of the "Première Edition" lot, packaged by the company in only 1955 pieces to celebrate the return and commemorate the year of birth of the historic brand founded in Dieppe by Jean Rédélé. The odometer shows a mileage of 1,620 km.

Exterior

As is evident from the pictures, this Alpine, which is one of the very first to come off the assembly line, is in like-new condition. There are no imperfections in the bodywork: there is not the slightest trace of scratches or dents, and the paint is shiny, a sign that this car has spent most of its time in the shade of a garage. All the glazed parts and decorative friezes, such as the "A" on the fuel filler cap, the "Alpine" lettering on the nose and tail, and the small French flags affixed at the rear pillar, are perfectly intact, in addition to the fixed and movable body components. Also new are the alloy wheels, which fit 18-inch tires with differentiated sizes: 205/40 at the front and 235/40 at the rear. The tires, having covered very few miles, are not worn.

Interior

The extraordinary state of preservation of this Alpine A110 is evident also looking at the interior. It still smells like new and there are numerous details that testify to remarkable care in the use of the car by its owner. No component shows signs of wear and tear. The seats with integrated headrests, which are very profiled to contain the driver's and passenger's body in sporty driving, are perfectly intact both in the side parts (lined in soft quilted leather) and in the seat and back (covered in suede fabric). Also new are the three-spoke sports steering wheel, the gearshift paddles, the dashboard and all the buttons from which the car's main and auxiliary functions are operated. Hanging on the right wall of the centre tunnel is the original fire extinguisher. Also perfectly intact is the touch-screen infotainment display. Also in excellent condition are the floor mats and the carpeting lining the floor, as well as the headliner.

Mechanical

The photographs in our possession do not include pictures of the underbody, but the car is so "fresh" and well-maintained that there is no reason to suspect any problems in that area. The engine is as good as new: it has run very few kilometres and, as the service booklet attests, it has always received the manufacturer's scheduled maintenance at the Alpine Centre workshop in Rome, where the car was purchased in 2018. The last service was in 2021, and since then the car has been used with a dropper. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine - the owner assured us - runs like clockwork.

History

This Alpine A110 was ordered well in advance by its owner, a collector of classic and modern cars with a predilection for Porsches who was particularly keen on securing an example of the limited "Première Edition" series. The car, which had always belonged to the same person, was used very little, spending most of its days in the shade of a dry garage and indulging in a few small outings mostly at classic and sports car rallies.

Summary

Small super sports cars capable of conveying strong emotions behind the wheel today can be counted on the fingers of one hand. The Alpine A110 falls squarely into this narrow category: it has a mechanical setup designed expressly for driving fun and an engine that is not exaggeratedly powerful but very generous and rough, thanks to turbocharging. A separate note deserves the line of this beautiful car: in its toned and sinuous forms past and present coexist in perfect harmony, and the references to the racing cars that inflamed rally audiences in the 1960s and 1970s replicate that undisputed appeal in a modern key. The example on sale has two huge points in favour: it belongs to the limited launch series "Première Edition" and is in practically like-new condition. Two very important aspects also in terms of future revaluation.

Price estimate for this Alpine A110. Première Edition: € 65.000 - € 85.000
